The lack of consistency from airport to airport and from week to week is frustrating.
This may not be intentional but it is effective against the bad guys. The least effective security procedures are ones that are the same all the time and in all places. While frustrating (and probably unintentional) different procedures in different places, even on different days, are more likely to trip up a terrorist.

As an aside, if a passenger complains when I cut in front of them, I politely inform them that the 9-11 Commission recommended that flight crews have a seperate screening mechanism. If they have an issue with me cutting the line, they should write their Senator/Congressman.
Perhaps it would be more effective to tell them "Actually, TSA does not require crewmembers go through this bag check security line, but allows the use of an alternate method which would not inconvenience passengers like this. Unfortunately, the airline you are flying today has so little respect for you that they have chosen to have you stand in this line longer, than to pay the small price to implement the alternate method here. Have a good day."

Don't forget the rampers, gate agents and everybody else that touch the airplane goes through to the secured area with the swipe of a badge. Just flight crew are checked.
I love the answers I get from the TSA when I ask them to explain that.

And most people don't know that when the TSA changed to the new blue uniforms with the shinny metal badge, they decided they were to dumb to keep from loosing it if they took it off to pass through the magnetometer. So in their infinite wisdom they said "I know, lets not make them go through and just bypass our own checks". So know the TSA walk around. Crew Pass now.

To add to your comments. In MSP most of the Somali's and Ethiopians that work at the airport swipe the badge and off they go with their large backpacks(wonder what they might be able to bring in???). Watched it happen while I got a very thorough pat down(for refusing the scanner) all the while pointing this out to our smurf friends.

Well while we are being distracted with the smurfs and their new toy, the real thing we should be concerned about is Obama's desire for his own private army:

And yes, watch the video link on the article provided, it comes out of Obamas mouth, not some nut job.

So who is the nut job?

But don't let a good internet rumor slow ya down.

Agree, crew pass has been around long enough to be expanded. It's too bad the original poster is having to deal with this. We all feel the same way, however, it is in my humble opinion that he is fighting a losing battle. I think it would have been best to complete the screening process and then complain. Now, since he refused to comply, I believe he can be deemed a security risk by the airport or the TSA. This could have an adverse affect on his ability to travel to and from work.

It's a long thread.....has anyone with legal expertise in this area made any comments? I seem to recall that some pilot years ago made a huge stink at the Madison airport regarding the screening process and was deemed a security risk making it very difficult him. Not sure how it played out.

Why not just go through the scanner? It only takes about 15 seconds? I really just can't wrap my brain around why this has everyone in such a state of disarray?

Because there is something inherently un-American about having to choose between letting a total stranger see me naked or letting a High school dropout touch me on or near my genitalia just to go to work.

And genitalia is a word that I thought I would never use on Flight info.

Post this crap on every website. I haven’t been asked to enter the scanner yet but I definitely won’t. Touch my balls and charges will be pressed.

Take off your f'n shoes and go through the scanner. Done.

How about you go shave your mustache! In the mean while I'll opt out of the Cancer Radiation Treatment method. Thx.

There are battles to fight, and then there are battles not worth fighting... TSA is one not worth fighting... Their rules change faster than a wardrobe line at a fashion show. Submit to their requests and go fly... You should see how they treat our customers let alone crewmembers.

Suppose you just tell us what is worth fighting for. What is it that you stand for?

Averaging 4 legs per day, 4 days worked per week, 4 weeks worked per month = 64 "low radiation exposures" per MONTH, which is 768 per YEAR, 7680 per DECADE, and over 23,000 exposures in a 30 year career.

Which is yet another compelling reason why you shouldn't willingly subject yourself to even more, bad enough as is!

Crewpass might be a lot speedier if a certain well known company did not see it as a bigger profit maker than the airlines might hope for

TSA has a job to do that is federally mandated and IS THE LAW. They are Federal Agents get over it.

By saying "Federal Agent" you are insinuating they are law enforcement. Do a little research. They are NOT! This has ben upheld in court. They are Federal security guards that cannot ask you about anything that does no directly relate to the safety of the flight. Nothing more... The cute little badge they wear was added because they felt the original cloth badge that was sewn on the uniform didn't produce enough respect from the general public. The TSA cannot detain you for any period of time without the police present. There is a reason for this. Don't be in such a hurry to bend over and give up your consitutional rights.

That is not true. Making comparisons between Hitler and Obama is ignorant and offensive, and has no place in this discussion.

Absolutely Right!!! People said the same thing about Pol Pot, Hussein, Stalin, Amin, Pinochet, Castro, Mao tse Tung, etc., ALL of whom promised the same things as Obama. Those statements were ignorant and offensive then too.

Yeah buddy, put down the crack pipe. Hitler comparisons have been made of every US president since Reagan.....it's nothing new. Go back to studying your chem-trail/911/Janet Reno is an alien conspiracy theories. Yes, you are no different from those idiots.

I wonder what comparisons were made in 1930's Germany. Those opinions were dismissed as ludicrous then too. Not long after that, total gun control was complete, the Reich took over health care and dictated over every business - for the good of the people of course. What constitutional rights the people had were gone. After that, you were deemed to be a danger to society if you had the wrong name, said anything contrary to the regime or were merely accused you of being contrary by ANYONE. THEN, those posing a "danger" were sent to reeducation camps - many of whom didn't come back.

Then, as now, Hitler, et al., didn't force their way into power, They were supported by masses who want Hope, Change, and Safety. Well, they got their wish, didn't they.

Come on ALPA, GROW a single ball and put a line in the sand (a date to have this fixed by or else we will not go through) for the law to be followed. In 2002 the law said the FAA and TSA will come up with a method for crewmembers. 8 years is enough. Lets put a date in the sand and it will get fixed.
