That's an EMB-145 XR. ExpressJet picked them up 2 or 3 weeks ago. They have the winglets, strakes below the APU, and a center fuel tank. Supposidly it has an operational range of approx 1500 NM. The XR is all that ExpressJet is getting for the near future.

i was wondering the same thing as I saw 1 flying out of DTW (detroit metro) this past sunday. Sweet looking plane! :D

It actually has a range of approximately 2,000nm. Ready to take over mainline 737 routes. Expressjet has 104 firm deliveries slated.

Though Embraer publishes a range of around 2000 miles, I don't think that the XR's "real life" performace will match that. Fill it up with full fuel and as many pax as you can throw on within weight limitations (or full pax and as much fuel as you can put on), and I think that at 2000 miles you will be flying a very heavy glider.

Houston to Palm Springs is going to be a stretch with a DP out of IAH to Dallas and then beating the winter winds to the coast. I think that dispatch and load planning are going to start earning their money when they start stretching out the XR's legs.

As for taking CAL's routes, if ExpressJet can do it more efficiently, then more power to them. At least for the time being, they are still on the same team.

Im not sure the Mileage but its doing EWR to Oak city, IAH to PIT, EWR-MCO. Man thats a lot of time in those seats!

As for being on the same team, remember we have a flow through so if they were building Mainline instead of express we would be there instead of here.

Can anyone at Coex tell me if the new jet has a higher Vmo?

The XRJ has the same speed/altitude certification as the ERJ/LRJ. M.78/FL370. It would've gone higher and faster, but I think it would've been more of a headache to get FAA certification. There's also a new takeoff thrust setting to allow high altitude takeoffs between pressure altitudes of 8,000' to 10,000'.
