I guess there are alot of companies out there that they're employees qualify for food stamps.
But I guess the real blame should go to the government, for allowing and having the min. wage so low. As long as they (gov.) allow this to go on, some company out there will take advantage.
Reminds me, when I first started working for this company, during basic indoc, the HR lady came in to talk to us and at the end she said "by the way most of you qualify for food stamps, all we ask is that you don't pick it up with your uniform on".

I don't know anything about WalMart aviation, but I have heard that it's located in Fayetville, Arkansas. Supposedly one of America's finer FBOs.

But WalMart embodies all of the bad things about capitolism, so beware.

The role of government is not to guarantee you any particular "outcome" such as a particular standard of living, wage, or purchasing power. You decide what you are worth when you decide what wage you will accept. I was recently offered $8.50 to work at Home Depot. I decided to sell real estate instead, in addition to my acting and voiceover business. I decided I was worth more than what was offered.

The situation of these wages is one of supply and demand, a concept independent of capitalism. If you want to place "blame," then blame the people who are willing to work at these low rates. If people decided to get more education or open their own business, then they would not be available for an hourly job that pays a low rate, and the corresponding wage offered would rise.

Think about it: people are willing to pay for an avaiation job. What does that say about the value pilots place on the use of their skills?

I would have to agree with Timebuilder here ... I've turned down a few jobs due to the pay. After 9/11, I took a "temporary" office job for $11.00/hr. because nothing else was available in either aviation or the computer field. "Temporary" lasted 2 years and 8 months for me, until I was able to find something else.

I recently accepted a Senior I.T. Analyst position for one of the local city governments,which includes a state pension plan, 401K match, and a substantial compensation package. If I can find a quality corporate aviation position, then I'll definitely give it a very close look, but I refuse to work for sub-standard flying wages (based on experience level).

Some guys will jump on any and every opportunity, regardless of the pay. This is why the industry is taking advantage of the pilot groups. Obviously it's based on supply & demand, as well as experience level. I just wish more pilots would back their careers up with additional skills. In tough economic times, it's nice to know you have a skillset to fall back on, other than flying.

Let's get back to wannab0133's question regarding WalMart ... anyone have info for him?

You are corect about Timebuilder.

Walmart AVIATION: flies out of Arkansas and has a diverse fleet and pays $60K or better to start. I knew a number of pilots from Walmart that were hired at TWA in the mid-90's. From what they have told me and from what my friends who have recently been hired by Walmart Aviation have said (furloughed TWA), it appears that things at the flight department have improved a lot and it's a good gig. It's not top dollar for the equipment, but it's not the least either. If you don't mind Arkansas, it is worth checking out.

Trust me, It's a good gig... Especially if you have a family and would like to see them more than occasionally.

Like anything, every job is not the right fit for every individual. As usual, the people with the least amount of up to date, factual information are usually on the boards first with negative comments. I'd be happy to provide general information if you would like wannab0133.

Is Walmart aviation still considering flying some type of RJ on scheduled commuter/point-to-point routes to replace some of the commuter service that disappeared?

My friends that fly there tell me they like the gig.

They were looking at the RJ thing real hard pre-9/11, but dropped it after 9/11 because of airport security, among other things. We've been told that it's not under consideration now, but it's not a dead issue. Personally, I doubt it will ever happen, as the cost would be hard for our management to sell to the bean counters downtown.

I got a call from WalMart on Friday past and have set up a Phone interview with them for this Wed. morning. The job starts at 43k per year with yearly performance reviews for increase in pay. I speak regularly with a friend of mine who has been with them for almost a year now. If there are any questions I can answer let me know. I am sure the interview will be some Technical stuff and then some HR. I was told to expect the Phone Interview to last about 1 hour and that there will be a panel of people that will interview me. As far as WalMart being a terible place to work for......... Well, I am looking forward to the interview and hope that I get the job. The aviation side is very different from everything else that goes on at WalMart. In my opinion, It would be a great job to retire from. Just my $0.02.

Do the pilots have to share a room on an overnight trip? I heard that you do. I also heard that on your non flying days you are expected to be a janitor around the hangar.

I would love to live in XNA, but I am getting bad vibes from this flight department.
