Everyone,

Hello. RebeJetGirl has asked me to help answer some questions since she is unable to. Let me give all the basics and hopefully that will answer everyone's questions.

First

You can send your resumes to:

Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
Attn: Jenny Ford
5 Hammerschmidt Dr.
Rogers, AR 72756

Second: According to the latest RUMORS ( and that is just what they are) we may have a couple new airplanes on the ramp this year so they will be needing the pilots for upgrades. I am not sure how many they will be hiring. All hired will go into the Learjet 30 series as a First Officer. Wal-Mart will fly you to the interview and put you up in a hotel room for the night and feed you. During the interview process there will be a sim ride in the lear 35 simulator and a sit down interview with four or five of the captains here at Wal-Mart. It is done very professionally and there are no surprises. It will take a couple of weeks before they figure out who they want and they will contact you. Unless they have changed it, Wal-Mart will help with moving expenses to live in AR. All pilots need to live fairly close. I think the plan is that once you are hired you go to flight safety for lear 35 initial. After one year you go back for recurrent with type. Every six months after initial they send you to recurrent alternating between Lear 35 and lear 31. There are annual evaluations on your hire date and depending on your performance there is a little raise. After type and depending on the needs of the company (which change often) there are upgrades to captain. There is NO timeline for captain. It all depends on the needs of the Company and your performance.

Life at Wal-mart is pretty good. We fly approximately 50-70 hours a month. We have an average of 4 RON's per month. You are home every other night. 90% of our flights leave at 6:30 am and return around 5:30 pm. We have scheduled days off with 1 four day weedend per month. We do not fly a whole lot on weekends, but you will at times. we have approximately 70 pilots and 21 airplanes with all but one being Lear 30 series airplanes. They are nicely equipped with most of them equipped with EFIS. We are currently putting in the planes the EGPWS. I have only one thing to say about Maintenance. The are the BEST!

I will let the interview committee discuss salaries with everybody. I am not sure of hiring mins but I think you have to have around 2000TT with 500ME. I am guessing you might need a little more to be competitive. Everybody knows how the industry is doing. But that is not all they look at. They look at what kind of experience you have and at the interview they look at will you fit in with the rest of us loonies. Naa, we really have a good group of pilots with alot of good talent.

That is all I can think of for now. Just post your questions and I will do my best and good luck to all.

Where is the interview, and what are the new ships that are coming?

hey all again,

Brett,

The interviews usually take place at witicha, ks. we use their flight safety facility and their sim. I think the new ships will be Challengers. not sure what model of Challenger.

Swimmer,

I believe the pay starts around 40,000 a year.

Just keep the questions coming and i'll do my best to answer them.

Questions for anyone who may know

Do the pilots normally fly everyday Mon. thru Fri and then some
weekends or is it hit and miss through the week?

What would the salary range be after 5 years or so?

Are most of the Wal-Mart guys content with their jobs?

Thanks

Is there an email for resumes or just the snail mail?

Thanks.

Proav,

It is mainly Mon thru Fri. We average probably around four days per week. Be sure that we earn our keep. Just about every day we work is at least a 12 hour day. Be at the airport at 5:30 am and land back at ROG at 5:30 pm. Not all days are like that, but most are. It really is hard to say what your salary would be in five years. They are currently working on a progression plan that means more money for you even if you stay a First Officer for a couple of years or more. You won't starve here. Most of the people are very happy here and are planning on making it a career.

LR25,

Here is a FAX number. I am sorry I don't have an E-Mail. Let me ask REBAJETGIRL tomorrow. 479-621-2450 ATTN: Jenny Ford

That's all for tonight. Keep them coming.

RON ?

Passion4flying,

First I'd like to thank you for taking the time provide info for everyone here. My question is do you get your own hotel room on RON trips or do you share? I think I remember on the old board awhile back when the Pro Pilot article was out that someone commented on this.

Take Care, Hope its not too hot yet down there.

Dutch,

We sold the G-!V about a year ago and the only long range airplane we have is the Global Express.

500agl,

They used to share rooms. That changed some time age. We now have seperate rooms. The place has really changed for the better a couple of years ago. All in all, Wal-Mart is a very decent company to work for.

Good luck to all interviewees. I am going on vacation tomorrow
(Thursday) I will be back in 10 days to answer more questions. I hope I have put out some good information for everybody to make a decision. I am sure we will see some of you in KROG.

anything new?

Just wanted to bring this back up to the top. Anyone have any new info?

Has anyone got a call from Wal Mart? I got a call about three weeks ago to update my resume by the 8th of May, haven't heard anything else.

What is the cost of living like in and around Rogers. I was in the
area the other day and drove out Hwy 12 to the lake. Is there
any rental property out that way that is affordable? What is
the average monthly rental on some local apartments?
These questions may be better suited to a Real Estate agent I
realize but if you have any guestiments I would appreciate them!

Thanks!

Of course as you get to the lake it gets more expensive. I rented a place close enough to the airport for 700 a month. Of course you could find More and less expensive. The standard of living is not to bad.

P4F,

Any idea on when they might start interviewing? (i'm getting anxious)

Sked. ?

I've read the above posts on sked. and quality of life and have a few questions.

It looks like mostly day trips (except for the 4 or so RON's/month) so if you don't get assigned a trip on say Monday for the next day are you on call, off or somewhere in the middle? Also are you required to be in contact 24/7 and carry a pager?

Also how are aircraft dispatched? I guess you do your own flight planning from what I can remember about the Pro Pilot article.

Again thanks for taking the time to relay info and answer questions. You are doing the industry and our profession a good service by helping others.

Hope thoes catfish you caught are good. I hope to and can't wait to join you guys down there on the lake.

Take Care

500agl,

They do try to post a schedule 2 weeks in advance. The schedule tells you what airplane you are assigned to and where you will be going. They typically are 3 to 6 stops in one day. If you are not scheduled to fly they assign you a standby number. If you are standby 1 or 2 then you are on call all night, but if you have a higher number than that you are off at 5 pm. Getting called to fly on standby is not that common.

We have a schedule that we print off for an entire year that tells us what days we have off. We have 1 four day weekend per month and 1 three day weekend and then you have days off scheduled during the middle of some weeks. It really works out pretty nice.

They also post the destinations we will be hitting in 2 to 3 weeks before they assign pilots so that if we want to go somewhere in particular we can bid that on a first come first serve basis.

We should be starting to call people for the interview in the next week or so. Good luck to all.

p4f,

How long is there usually between the phone call and the interview?

Find out what the new airplanes are yet?

How close do you have to live to Rogers? Is Fayetteville o.k.?

Thanks for all the answers!!!

Brett,

There is no set time between the phone call and the interview. I have heard the interview will take place early to mid july. Right now the interview committee is going over all the resumes. I uderstand that we have approximately 600 resumes to go over, it takes a little time.

The new airplane is a Challenger.

You can live in Fayetteville if you want. That is about 45 minutes away. Just remember that you have to be at the airport at 5:15am. The longer away you live, the earllier you have to get up. Good luck to all.

Passion4flying.....Do you know how many positions Wal-Mart is interviewing for in the upcoming interviews? I have been invited to the interviews in Atlanta and was also wondering what kind of subjects will be covered on the written test. Any info. on the process would be greatly appreciated......Okflyr.

okflyr,

First, Congratulations to you and all who are coming. As far as the questions you have asked, I am not too sure. I am NOT on the interview committee so I don't have any specific information on how things are going to proceed. Do not worry when you get to Atlanta the committee will tell you everything you need to know. I do not have a concrete information on how many they are hiring or any information like that. But, I wish everyone good luck and hope to see you guys at KROG in the near future.

Benefits

Can you give me any information about the benefits? Health, dental, vacation, sick time, 401k, etc.....

Also, on average, how often are the pilots on call? How long do they have to report?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Benefits are pretty standard. You get health and dental and eye, all the standard stuff. After 1 year you can start 401K. There is profit sharing. I am not sure if it is your first year or after your first year you get 1 week vacation then after your 2d year you get 2 years. I am not sure what the process is after that.
We typically work 4 days a week with 1 or 2 standby days a week. When you get called in you are expected to get therre without any delay. So when you are standby 1 or 2 you always plan to be available. Believe me, you don't want to be the one who is standby 1 and can't be reached. You don't get called alot on standby but that is what we are getting paid for so we are ready. Again, good luck to all.

Pro Pilot ?

Does anyone remember the date of the Pro Pilot Article on Wal Mart. I think it was in late 00 or early 01 sometime.

Thanks
