The first ace of the Vietnam war, the pilot who shot down the Vietnamese ace Colonel Toon, and the man whose career was loosely brought to the big screen by Jerry Bruckheimer in the movie Top Gun.....has just stepped down from Congress and acknowledged charges of bribery.

What a shame to see such an aviation legend go down like this. Just goes to show that no one is above the temptation of greed.

I can't even imagine what it's like to know that you're gonna be someone's "boyfriend".

He'll long for the days when he was getting shot at.

YIKES

I flew against him when he was with VA-126 at Miramar. Also shot craps with him at Tailhook in '84. A bit of a slacker who was very serious only when he was in the aircraft.

Never struck me as a deep thinker. There were Navy rules...and "Duke" rules.

I'm not too surprised by this turn of events.

Occam's Razor, I heard the same thing flying with and old F4 pilot who worked at my company. He said the Duke was full of himself and the MX guys hated his ass.

Prison?? please, dont make me laugh. he's just like every other polititian of late that has screwed up and broken the law. He'll give a big repentant speech to the courts saying how sorry he is, and that he just had a weak moment. He'll get a slap on the wrist and pay a large amount of money in fines and restitution, and that will be it. Guys like him dont go to prison in this day and age. If you're a polititian, popular, have enough cash, and a good attorney, you can get away with just about anything once. I'd be very suprised if he ever serves a day after conviction.

Sad but true...

Too bad though, as someone would have enjoyed him in the pokey.

Heheh, I can hear it now... "Hey Duke, incoming SAM on your six!" NO time to ejac...er... I mean eject... Ugh!! right up the tailpipe!

Duke

Duke is a tool. I remember when he came to get the dog and pony show in Lemoore. He showed up at the club and with every squadron there basically told everyone he was to cool to hang with a bunch of Hornet guys.

This convection couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

yeah too bad he didn't strike you as a deep thinker, then again, who was a congressman?

You mean: Which one of us is a "lying crook"?

Why, he is.

If his mental prowess is demonstrated by his ability to get elected to Congress...I will utter a silent prayer of thanks that I am not as "smart" as Randy Cunningham. The honor of being elected to Congress is nothing if you only use it for self-enrichment.

A child molester that rescues a nun from a burning convent is a child molester.
A scumbag that invents a cure for hiccups is a scumbag.
A lying crook that gets elected to congress is a lying crook.

Yeah, it's just too bad that in this country, lying crooks seem to be the only ones that can get elected to public office, and then the ones that elected them bitch piss and moan about it when they inevitably do something this monumentally stupid.

Duke Cunningham

Well, had to draw a line through that guy's name on my list of "True American Heros" ... he won't get all that he deserves.

I couldn't agree with you more.

A lot of people have been disillusioned by meeting Yeager in person. Yeager has apparently always been quite in love with himself and its a wonder he could fit his head in a P-51 in his post war civilian flying.

Not to denegrate his achievements, but he has a reputation of being quite the A$$ at times. One acquaintance whose son wrote to year for a signed picture got a picture back with letter saying how he knew his was just going to be for F$$$$$$ ebay.

Its a same that people who have had such greatness have to find another way to lower themselves.
