A new hire on the east would be best served by remaining separate (no joint contract).

A joint contract is going to cost them 1,800 seniority numbers. Delay their upgrade for several years, and subject them to certain furlough should we start losing money.

A joint contract means furlough for East pilots when the economy tanks.

I personally would rather make a little less $, then to be furlough protection for West pilots with a DOH after mine

Sorry to break the news to ya big guy...but you already are furlough protection for the 1800 west coast pilots......You ignorant ____! Read the transition agreement

correct me if i'm wrong but newhires will be on the bottom of the list either way. They certainly won't upgrade on the east in the next 3 years or so and the groups will be merged by then. They would be much better off working under a decent contract which will only be available via ALPA. No matter what USAPA puts on thier website they will be unable to negotiate an agreement any time soon.

Eventually management will bring in a Arbitrator, just like Alaska did, and force a contract down all our throats. In this case we all lose, company wins again.

Time to start looking for another company, this one is about to enter BK number 2 for West, number 3 for East.
 
If oil hits above $120/barrel, the company could make more money parking 25% of the fleet, furloughing 1200 pilots and selling the fuel hedges rather than flying.

Lucky for us, with the current TA still in place and without a single contract, they can’t do that.

Oh come on....using any one of a number of avenues (GAAP, BK) "they" can do anything they want. These agreements aren't worth the paper they're printed on.

If you really want my advice, for what it's worth, enjoy your job and develop an outside source of funds.
 
Do you USAPA guys really think that Parker will let this go on? If you were to be successful in replacing ALPA with USAPA, the contract process would never get finished and USAPA would be bogged down in lawsuits for the next decade, even further slowing things down. Parker doesn't have time for this BS. He has an airline to run and shareholders to keep from getting pissed off. He knows that USAPA will cause him an endless slew of problems, and he'll start parting out the East operation piece by piece if you push this. This is an absurd exercise in futility.

Well, not according to the President of US Airways himself. The following is from a company CBS message.

"the company won't be offering any opinions about which union should represent our pilots. We will remain neutral in the process and will accept whatever representation decision our pilots make.


Thank you for all you do to help our customers and your fellow employees."

The fact is that the East is protected by LOA 93 minimum fleet size requirements. If there is a downsizing it would mostly happen out west. That's why many East pilots don't want a JNC contract.

Actually both sides have a minimum fleet defined in the Transition agreement. I have tried before to get what the actual numbers are but have not been successful. I do believe that both sides are at or very near the min. fleet count. It would be hard for the company to park more airplanes while they are making huge profits. It's one thing to violate agreements while in BK, and quite another while they are making money... (edited to add...) Of course this does not preclude any backdoor agreement that throws the junior pilots under the bus... again... One more reason we need a union that will stand up for ALL the pilots...
