Apparently they are letting USAirways and USAirways Express Pilots start wearing leather jackets as part of the uniform. I have already seen some mainline guys sporting them and they look pretty sharp. I have heard the supplier will be Gibson and Barnes and I am guessing it will be the skyliner model in black or a variation of it. They have a spot for wings on the front left and removable epaulettes. I have not seen anything official on it yet, anyone else have any info??

And to all you flamers that are going to tell me that pilots in leather jackets aren't cool, neither is the blue Columbo jacket I wear right now!! So lets see, JetBlue, Southwest, Alaska, and now USAir. Soon the whole pilot force will be leather clad!

Maybe soon we can eliminate that stupid hat. I don't know anyone who actually likes to wear it. Are we naive enough to believe that it serves some practical purpose or somehow garners us more respect?

But doesn't Airways Express wear blue uniforms? What color would the jackets be? Black?
It looks good for the CoEx pilots because they wear black, but I cant imagine it with blue!

Yep. they are black. I have seen them in person and they look really sharp with the rest of the uniform. I am no fashion expert but I believe blue and black can go together. I agree with you all about the hat, but I don't see a conservative company like USAirways ditching those just yet. Come to think of it that tie I wear is kind of uncomfortable as well.....

Can't wait to hear where to get them, got a uniform allowance burning a hole in my polyester pants!

Why not just wear Hawian shirts and Bermuda shorts with sandles and company issued Ray-Ban sunglasses. Don't forget to offer our customers a complimentary margerita and be allowed to blast Jimmy Buffet music in the cockpit!

hmm...

Question is, do we have to get them through those companies? and are they techinically a-2 style or g-1 or what?

cause there's a local leather place that gets nice jackets @ incredible prices (not those crappy chain places in the mall) and is undoutably better quality than any of the crap we get from UTY and Cintas, or whatever flavor of the day uniform shop we have to buy our polyester infused 'uniforms' from.

personally, i'd like to switch to khaki's and golf shirts , nice all cotton comfort. no tie, no hat. and something other than dark blue and white.

in the meantime, can i wear my side laced antique brown motorcycle jacket? lol

Haven't you guys herd......

All Wholly Owned pilots are scoped from leather jackets pending the companies emergence from CH11 on March 31, 2003.

If US Airways does come out of CH11 then said WO pilots may wear leather jackets in accordance with the J4J agrement (leather jecket guidlines found in LOA 99999333991 sub paragraph 4567777ccc of the agreement).

Chris Beebe was not available for comment however Roy "I have a speech problem" Freuildlick said that any WO pilot cought wearing a leather jacket before 31 march of this year will be subject to mainline whiney grievance number nine billion four hundred fifty two.

i like the hat also. did a 4 day without the hat, kept forgetting my cell phone. it makes a nice holder while eating and/or on breaks.

I mean I like to wear the hat! See! I'm the pilot! I'm wearing the hat! Give me a discount on food! I'm wearing the hat!

(I really do like the cover, I think guys walking around in the terminal without it look sloppy.)

S.

along with using my hat as my "pilot purse" for my phone and sorry beechnut, my copenhagen at lunch, I do like wearing the hat. It's part of the uniform, don't wanna watch the yankee's work without the hats', look's stupid.

Has anyone actually seen anything in writing about the leather jackets? I don't want to spend the money then be told that a leather jacket does not give off an "Impression of Excellence."

I have seen someone wearing the leather jacket in the DCA crew room and it looked pretty sweet.

Peace

Skeezer

PS The hats are DORKY!!! They make you look like a skycap (not that there is anything wrong with being a skycap).

hats

while i will admit that the hat is usefull for the tsa security point probings to put all my stuff in for the xray, it otherwise just takes up space and time trying to find someplace to stash it.

hey mullet, if your growin a tennesee tophat what do you need with the nazi lid? people won't be able to see the 'business up front' just the 'party in back'

lol

With an attitude like that towards "impressions of excellence" you might get sent to the Russian Front!!!!!

Impudence of Excommunication

mullet,

you've obviously never been to phl or lga's express ramps/terminals...
IoE means absolutely nothing there. I've seen do-rags, head wraps, pants/coveralls down around the hips.

but "I see nothing, I know nooooothing"

**CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**, i'm already punchy and haven't started my 4 day yet with overnights in the wonderful metropolis' of Stewart/Newburgh, and WilkesBarre. This is gonna be a baaad week... at least i have vacation afterwards...ahhh, 12 days of no shaving (at least until the girlfriend gets pissed)

oh and 12 days of NO HAT!

:D

**CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****C

it put four 'censored's in for just saying
d a m n
jeesh, political correctness has run completely amuck and is ruining this country....along with "impressions of excellence"

Hey now, don't put down the hats.

Us bald guys need those things to keep our scalp from baking in the summer time.

I can't wait 'til I get a job with a hat. All I have are these 4 silly stripes on my shoulders...

LearLove,

You have the best sence of humor:D .

And to everyone on the hat subject. The hats need to go. They're OUTDATED, USELESS, and LOOK RETARDED! They serve no purpose except to make you look like a GEEK and give you HATHEAD. Oh wait they do hold stuff but thats about it. I say make the hats optional then the people that like to wear them can see how much of a dork they look like.;)

Hi!

ATA also has the black flt. jacket. They wear the round hats, but the guys I saw took all the stuff out of them, and the sides were bent over-the "50 mission crush" look.

If you are younger, or don't know that look, the transport pilots wore their headsets over their round hats, which crushed the sides down after a while. I was going to add bomber pilots, but most of them wouldn't have a hat like that, as they died right away. I think after 25 missions they got to go home, but the death rate was about 80% or higher, and not many made it through 25 missions.

I'm at USA Jet, and we also have black leather jackets (Falcon guys have no hats-a lot wear baseball caps), while the DC-9 pilots get a round hat, I don't think many of them wear it.

We have navy pants, and the black jackets look good with them.

I also HATE the round hat. It takes up a lot of space if it's not on your head and it doesn't do well packed in a suitcase.

I'm really glad the black jackets are popular. I have a brown one from the AF-so I don't need another brown one, and black is my favorite color. The black goes well with the shoes, belt, watch, luggage and flight kit (my last airline specified BLACK watch, luggage and flight kit-that meant I couldn't use my orangey camel leather flight kit from the Gulf War-darn!). I add black gloves when necessary-I wish our company had a black baseball cap to go with it, so if you liked wearing a baseball cap it would match also.

Anyway, I don't really like the suitjacket thing. If I was lucky enough to have the choice between two airlines that were otherwise about the same to me, I woud definitely go with the one that let you wear the leather jacket and deep-six the suitjacket.

Obviously, if the choice is between something like Great Lakes and NWA, and only Lakes has the leather jacket, I'm not an idiot!

Good luck to U, and I hope your airline has or will get the black jackets!

PS-Maybe it'll help us pick up chicks (or guys, depending upon your preference or sex) so we can live up to the claim in another thread that pilots are seen as "corrupt" and definitely not nice guys as they always screw around with FAs on the road!

Dixie Chicks RULE!

the hat makes a great basket to put your crap into before you go through the metal detector.....also, it apparently makes eveyone in the terminal think you're " sam, the answer man"

here's a sampling of questions asked by the intelligent traveler...

is my flight on time? i answer yes

which way to the baggage section? that way

did my baggage make the connection? let's ask it

are those small planes safe? i just nod

could you tell me where terminal d is? As we stand below the sign with terminal d > that way see the sign ma'am?

(please take this with the sense of humor that is meant)

i know they're the customer
