It's not official yet, but she's been suspended (whatever that means) for posing in Playboy.

Here the link

What the hell was she thinking, that she wouldn't get in any trouble?

Why should she get in trouble? She has done nothing illegal.

Instead of condemming people like her, the military should embrace people who remain individuals but still do their job well and serve their country.

Quote from the link story:

"This staff sergeant's alleged action does not meet the high standards we expect of our airmen, nor does it comply with the Air Force's core values of integrity, service before self, and excellence in all we do," Oscar Balladares, spokesman for Lackland Air Force Base, said in a statement.

Doing porn movies isn't illegal either, but the military sets a higher standard of conduct for its folks. Now, admittedly, our culture has whittled away at that standard over the past few decades and some of it has creeped into miltary society. Being "legal" isn't good enough.
Yes, it is discrimination. And that's good. We discriminate against folks that can't pass certain physical tests; you can't be a pilot if you don't pass certain vision tests; if you get into financial trouble, it can affect your military career. You have to have a 4-year college degree to be commissioned as an officer.
And, to help maintain "good order and discipline", as well of a host of other reasons that I'm not going to spend time typing, you need to stay out of Playboy.
Side note: to do "outside employment" while in the military, you have to get your commander's approval.

I have no problem with the SSgt doing a little modeling on the side just like I don't have a problem with boys being boys at Tailhook. Lose the double standard and leave her be.

So you're saying that just because what she's done dosen't break any laws, that she shouldn't be held to a higher standard anyway? She knew what she was doing, and knew the consequences.

I understand everything you said. I just disagree. I fail to see how an attactive woman, with a good body, a body she probably maintains during her miltary training, undermines good order and discipline.

As to your side note, thats one reason I left the military. As long as I am not doing anything illegal and I am fit and able to show up for duty and do my job, I don't think it's any of the military's business what job, if any, I do on my personal time.

But thats off the point. Show me where she has done anything to undermine order and discipline and I will agree that something needs to be done.

If the Air Force had just ignored this, very, very few people would have even known and it would have blown over in a week.
