I'd say there is a good chance that some of the leaders of the 'burn the witch' mob are themselves barstoolers.

This NCO needs a letter of counseling, maybe a basket LOR, but that's the extent of it.

I agree. Some talking head spouting off about the "transgressions" of someone else, GMAFB. And how exactly does it comply, or NOT comply, with the core values of the USAF? Is there even a correlation?

Integrety - Has she lied? Misrepresented herself?

Service before self - What does this have to do with service? If anything, I'd say she's doing quite a service to men the world over (EPR bullet for commuity service?).

Excellence in all we do - If you're in Playboy, you must have SOME excellent attributes! She achieved success in what many women dream of - a spread in the pinnacle of newdy mags!

I suppose there is one thing to keep in mind here - the USAF, just like any other large corporation, is quick to shun those that don't fit the "coroporate image" it likes to portray. The difference between the USAF and a corporation is that the corporation does this after an employee commits some type of crime - not pose in Playboy for Chrissakes! That being said I will say that I don't think she should be working as a DI after this issue is released for the reasons stated above.

This reminds me of another discussion I had recently with one of my squadron buds - that of "exceeding standards". We postulated that somewhere along the line what seemed to be a good idea got bastardized. "Exceeding standards", arguably the good idea, somehow became "just make a rule more restrictive than the one in the parent regulation". Take for instance mobile phone usage while driving.....not illegal in my state, but recently it became unacceptable behavior one base. Why? Are we somehow exceeding a "legal standard" by doing so? By the same token, shouldn't we also ban listening to the radio while driving? After all, you have to take your eyes off the road to change the station. Or how about vehicles with manual transmissions - God forbid you have to remove one hand from the wheel to shift! Call your safety officer!

Hi!

It is a common misconception that in "these days" morality, behavior, etc. is declining. This idea has been around forever, with certain people expressing how bad things are "today" and wishing for the "good old days".

A few years ago, I found out that the US military had WAY different standards in the early 1800s than they do today. Out on the Western frontier posts, married officers were allowed to house their mistresses and illegitimate children with them, in base housing, paid for by the taxpayer. I don't know if this practice was common out East or not. The official military dinners, on many occasions, would turn into all-out orgies after the food was consumed.

As we can see, the military today is light-years beyond that type of conduct. Nothing remotely like that is officially encouraged or condoned today.

I would like to add that in the early '90s, I was talking to my base legal officer about spouses having affairs with other members of the military. He said that nothing would be done about that, because if the military tried to enforce the existing rules they would have to lock up 1/2 of the base population.

Things are MUCH more tightly watched and regulated today than in almost any time in previous history. It used to be, in many societies, that everybody walked around naked. I don't see that happening on any military base, or even in any city today, for that matter.

Well I have to say that after what I heard about her behavior at Lackland..and the pics...she should be removed from BMT. As one peron mentiond - her credibility is shot. Also...she would be a spectacle at any base she PCSs to...so...I bet they "let" her separate. Tough call really...but if I were in charge..and I am old school military (work hard, play harder) Id still let her go......honestly...would you want her in your squadron? Think hard for a minute on that...every CC call you'd be briefing the guys to stay away from her...

Well, I was in the 67th Fighter Squadron when it went TDY to Clark AB a lot, and then the 90th Fighter Squadron when I was at stationed at Clark AB. Our flight commanders (some of whom are General Officers today) regularly lead us into all night parties in Angeles City where stuff went on that would make a Playboy model blush.

The 90FS had a Commander courts-martialed in 1995 for much worse than posing in Playboy, and I'm pretty sure he was allowed to retire.

We did have some moral guidence. We were told that the wives of guys in the fighter squadrons were off limits, but the C-130, helicopter, and Navy wives were all fair game.

I'm sorry, but when I see some of the guys who I remember being passed out on the floor of a bar in the Phillipines trying to lecture this young lady about "standards" it makes me sick.

She showed poor judgement, but kicking her out after 13 year because she makes you horny is extremely hypocritical.

While the individuals in your story failed to uphold the system, that should not be a wholesale condemnation of the values of the institution. What they have done, and what the SSgt has done, are wrong, irrespective of who is passing "judgment". If a judge in court convicts someone of a crime, and then commits the same crime, it doesn't invalidate the law.

Now, for those of the "live and let live" philosophy: how about it this SSgt was at Nellis and turning tricks at the local legal whorehouse? Let's look at a non-military setting: how about your 14 year old daughter's male schoolteacher posing nude, or doing gay porn movies? Hey, he's not hurting anyone in his school! Do you have a right to complain? Should he be disciplined or fired?
There are "standards". While those enforcing the standards now might not be perfect,... or even close to it,... they are the ones commissioned to uphold them now.

No I'd say I'm more conservative, and I think what she did is unproffesional. She'll never be looked upon with respect by any airman under her (no pun unitended), and she'll always be someone that superiors won't want in their unit. I hope she gets the boot, because it's obviously what she wants. Not exactly a stellar performer as it is... Joined in the mid-90's and is an E-5? If she wanted to pose that's her perogative, but do it when you're out, and def. NOT under the guise that she used as being some hard ass AF DI (that's just laughable regardless).

Of course as mentioned previously in the thread there would be no media circus to drive Playboy sales and further her future as a model or whatever her goal is.

While I have never served, I respect those who do. Those of you defending her understand that she is using the respect many civilians like myself hold for our soldiers to generate publicity for herself by be "shocking". Whatever your stance on the military and morals, the chick used you for her benefit. My opinion anyways.
