FYI: This graphic claims they lost an engine on approach, I have seen nothing "official" on this just press speculation. FYI

There is some talk on a Mexico aviation forum, amongst Mexican pilots, fsmex.com, that the "mistook the road for the runway" is far-fetched.

there is nothing offical. I am at the site for USA Jet there is no way that road was mistaken for a RW. it was night the road is not lighted

Guys, I'm sorry this has happened. I fly a freighter into MMIO once or twice a month for another operator. My thoughts are with the crew. Don't speculate on the cause. Wait for the facts. For others flying into this airport, please be careful. The navaids and airport are substandard and the weather reporting is often innaccurate.

thought the same thing from the original photos.

cleared unrestricted climb.

Lonnie was a great guy.. The type of guy you wanted to be stuck with on those USA Jet long trips. I was hired 1 class behind him, and I remember he was always very pleasant to talk with and he seemed to always be smiling.

swa/fo you are absolulely right. When ever i think of lonnie i always think of his smile and his quiet hello.
The news kicked me right in the stomach.

I consider myself one of Lonnie's best friends at USA Jet. We spent a season (3 mths) together flying NCAA sports teams aside from hundreds of other trips. And I can tell you there is no one better, more careful, or better prepared than he.
He was a godly man who loved his family, friends, and flying. He never seemed to have a cross word for anyone. To say he will be missed is the understatement of the century. I am sitting here trying to not short-out my laptop with tears I can't seem to stop from reading all these posts.

There is talk of a memorial fund for him being organized at USA Jet. For details. please contact them. In the meantime please keep his family and that of CJ's in your thoughts and prayers...Thank you.

Does anyone know if the First Officer has been or will be transported to the U.S. for much better medical attention?

Yes, once the local doctors "clear" him to be transported out (likely Air Ambulance), he will go.

The hospital he is at (if it is the one I think it is) is very reputable and highly regarded in the international medical world. This is not some clinic in the Amazon rain forest.

Also, new video of accident response/firetrucks
