Pre 9/11 AWA was a pretty sweet place???? You've been in the desert sun for too long. Post 9/11 AWA was about the only place hiring around 2002/03 I believe. And guys at that point for basically looking for any job they could. AWA happened to have someone, with gov't financing, who was able to take a short term advantage to the cut backs the majors had gone through........

I was hired prior to 9/11. Just past my hire date the 1996 hires (first class since 1991) were starting to upgrade (that's 4+ years). We were hiring, and had even hired some early AAA furloughees (along with AA, TWA, etc.). I'm going to go with "sweet" to describe the circumstances.

Doug did get the financing. I believe I heard that AWA purchases stock back from some investors. I believe that action made our financial position a little more tenuous, and gave Doug the leverage for C2004 negotiations.

AWA was the FIRST MAJOR airline to fly after 9/11 (I believe). AWA was the FIRST MAJOR airline to bring back all post 9/11 furloughed pilots. AWA was the FIRST MAJOR airline post 9/11 to begin hiring off the street (where we brought more furloughed US, UAL, AA, TWA, National, etc. pilots). AWA was the FIRST MAJOR airline to post profits post 9/11. AWA was the FIRST MAJOR airline to negotiate a new contract (post 9/11) that had significant improvements.

Call us "Mesa Grande", "Catpiss", whatever. Great group of people! Pretty good contract for the time being. Will not be bullied, belittled, battered, or beaten. The aviation community is watching this soap opera in utter amazement (suing your pilots for RICO, voting out ALPA to dodge a final & binding award, trying to fire your pilots for failure to pay the "new union", firing "new union" volunteers because they refuse to accept DOH, etc.).

ALPA National forced LOA 93 on you?
Of course they did! ALPA stole their pensions and ruined their airline. Their local elected reps were powerless as Woerth personally took over and screwed them. Management had nothing to do with. Bankruptcy had nothing to do with it.

And it was ALPA on that grassy knoll in Dallas back in '63. They're all bloody murderers. Go USAPA! Everything's fine now. If only they hadn't bought America West things would be even better.
