Doug Parker announced today that US Airways is recalling 55 pilots and 4 Flight Attendant classes!

Awesome news! I assume that recalls will be in seniority order from anywhere - including from MDA. I am sure those E170 guys (who felt abandoned) will be glad to hear this news...

for anyone on the USair side of things looking at getting recalled- if you have been recalled, then when is your class date and will you be based on the east coast or will you be based anywhere there is an opening - east or west?

Still curious as to how many furloughed USAir pilots will accept the recall?

Well this would not be surprising given the additional 757s and the EMB order, but where did you hear it?

IMO the recalls will go very junior once the EMBs show up due to the very low pay for FOs. Even the J4J Captains will probably bypass because they'll be making more in the left seat at CHQ or PSA. Eventually the recalls will fill from the bottom up on a pilot's last chance (for the EMB positions). Only the West positions (A320/B737) which pay better will go quickly and senior.

My personal WAG for recalls is that 1 of every 3 will return for about 500-600 total.

Recall is to the East operation. The latest pilot bid has 55 vacancies.

They won't be recalling for the 190's until later in the year when training has to spool up for November deliveries.

I personally will bypass a recall to the E190 right seat. Why take a paycut and be on bottom reserve?

In the laughs and giggles department.....

I work with a few Ex MDA Flight Attendants who got a letter in the mail from America West a couple of weeks ago. It offered them employment at America West, but they would be treated as new hires and only hold their AW hire date until the lists are merged in two years. Once the lists were merged, they would revert to their US Airways seniority. Then the kicker was not only are they not going to be paid for training, but America West expects them to pay for their own lodging for training.

Oh well, at least they got a good laugh out of it.........

Don't quote me on it, but I think they would be treated as new hires for bidding purposes, but they would bring over their longevity for pay and vacation etc.....

I Thought that the furloughs at US Air did not start until after 9-11 happened. They had stopped hiring sometime in late 2000 or early in 2001- can anyone varify this for me?

Anyone know what the junior pilot's DOH is at US airways.

The last active record I show is a LGA 319 FO with a hire date of 7/18/88

Congrats guys!!! Probably be a lot guys going back from JetBlows and Airtran.
This 15 years of service/furloughed ex 9 and 73 capt. ain’t in any hurry to leave AirTran for USAir. And I bet there are a half a dozen USAir folks that just plain quit (early retirement) USAir to work for AirTran just to take back a little control in their lives.

It’s nice to know that I MAY get recalled. (I was required to resign from USAir in the AirTran indoc process), But so much has changed at both carriers in the last five years. USAir down, AirTran up.

Let’s say I get recalled to the right seat of a 737 by mid summer 06 (190 deliveries schedule for Nov. 06). That’s on reserve 72 hrs @ $89 per hr. Not bad money and more than I make at Citrus. But there is a strong likely hood that I could be displaced to the 190 at $61 an hour by the summer of 07 as they park old tired 73s for the JJJ (Jumbo Jungle Jet). By that time at AirTran I'll be in the left seat @ $102 per hour.

I have two theories of airline economics, both have to do with chickens;

1. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.

2. The sky is always falling.

Both of these were proven time and time again at USAir. 99% chance I ain't going back!

And on behalf of those who are unwillingly getting dragged kicking and screaming into the quagmire, we thank you !!

The other part of that is AirTran will probably be here in three years. US Air? . . . . . . maybe not.

Do you doubt? Airways will definitely be around, didn't you see how hard they tried to go out of business? No one would let them. Besides who else will Airbus deliver those new A350's to?

Oh, great reader of all things in the future.....could you tell me what the winning powerball lottery numbers are for next week??:) Truth is no airline can be considered a safe haven anymore. Today's winners can very easily be tommorows next Chapter 11 filings. September 11th has sort of leveled the playing field. Everyone is just hanging on for the wild ride that this career has become.

Since we do not have any idea how fast this is going to roll downhill (I remember how shocked I was when the call came for MidAtlantic Captain in summer of 04)...

... does anyone know the rules regarding bypass?

I doubt it, Crusty.

Most UAir guys that are here are now well on their way to making Captain, and Captain pay at Airtran is better, not to mention the fact that they have hundreds of guys below them on the seniority list here.

Now, I know that wouldn't matter to you, since you LIKE to be on the bottom, but most of our guys aren't pillow-biting hamster-hiding nancy-boys like yourself.

Bypass all you want until they call you for a 190 CAPT slot. At that point if you bypass your gone for good.

That makes very little sense. If the 190 is, indeed, a fleet replacement for the 737 it could be a decade before a first officer could hold E190 Captain.

There is a section of your contract that references furlough recall and bypass. The most recent contract I have (collecting dust on my bookshelf) is from 99' so it's most likely not accurate.

Does anyone have a current PWA who wouldn't mind posting the section regarding recall and bypass for those of us who haven't been paying attention for a few years?

Thanks.

The thing about bypassing the 190 FO recall until a Capt is offered was in the agreement we voted on this past summer/fall that put the 190's at mainline. It was in the voting info not the contract.

I see. Well hopefully they'll spell it out a little bit more carefully in a letter to the furloughees. The furlough administrator has not been particularly good at information-sharing over the last 4 years.

If you're correct then I would think it would be smart to bypass as long as possible. If the E190s are ultimately slated to replace the 737s, then the recalls may be short-lived.

Wouldn't be the first time the company hired "temps" to staff a training bubble.
