Top pay for erj 190 will be $95 at us airways
Top pay for a crj200 at air willy is $91
Top pay for BAE146 at air willy is $113
Top pay for erj 170 at rep/shut amer is $99
Top pay for erj 190 at rep/shut amer is $109-if they ever get the airplane
The best part is Mesa flying the crj900 top pay is $100
So now Us Airways pilots will fly for less than MESA!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe instead of blaming all the regionals we can now look at what the legacy carriers are dong to this industry. This new pay rate just goes to show it isn't just the regionals, but every pilot is willing to fly a shiny new jet for less than someone else.

*insert Mesa-bashing comment here*

Doesn't matter, that $5.00/hr difference will be wiped out by the contract
and the Airways pilot will make $100-110,000/year while the Mesa guy will maybe get $90,000.

The hourly rate doesn't make squat, the contract does. I'm SURE that there are MANY regional F/O's that make more than a Mesa captain.

The E190 will be their smallest plane. They can make more when they go up to the 733, A319, A320, A321, 757, 767, A330 or eventually the A350. DL MD88 FOs make less than super senior Mesa CR9 Captains. So what is your point? Those rates for the E190 at USAir are better than pre-70 hour Jetblue rates.

Bye Bye--General Lee

The RJ rates at US reflect the reality. There are not many pilots at MESA at top of scale,or at any of the other regional carriers for that matter. Some regionals have top of scale pay at 18 years. At US Airways it is 12 years and I can guarantee you that every US RJ190 captain will be at top of scale.

In several years there is a jump in pay and a new contract will be negotiated. It is a higher rate, by a few bucks, than current AirBus right seat pay.

It is not great but it is what we have to do to keep our flying.

That about sums it up.

Not to mention, not only will the Airways pilot make more on his W-2, he will have a lot more than eight days a month off like the Mesa people.

I'll bet I have a better W-2 on 69 dollars an hour, than a Mesa pilot can on 80 dollars an hour.

Hourly pay is but one brick (a small one at that) in the foundation of a contract.

Besides, at the end of the day, a Mesa pilot... Is still a Mesa pilot. :D

It's kinda like winning the special olympics....even if you win, you're still retarded.

You have that backwards, this is a direct result of the regionals like MESA. Airways had only one choice, make horrible pay and keep the flying in house or lose it all together to a contractor. The only reason they had to make this choice is because of the extremely low pay of the contracting regional companies out there. As it is now, not MESA nor anyone else will get that flying, and Airways pilots can work on the pay during the next contract. I agree the pay is bad, but given the two options they did the right thing.

Great point!! these airplanes should never be at a "feeder" company in the first place! The fact that mainline companies will stop farming out MAINLINE flying to "feeder" type of companies who have to compete with LOW RATES is the problem for all of us. I would much rather work for a mainline company that competes in the free market than for a bottom "feeder" company who competes for contracts with other "feeders".
Look at what is going on...CHQ is "TAKING" flying away from COMAIR, TSA is "TAKING" flying away from EAGLE. SKYWEST and G0JET is "TAKING" flying away from AIRWISKEY. EXPRESS JET is getting flying "TAKEN AWAY" from them. No, that is not what is really happening. Mainline companies are contracting out to the LOWEST bidder for feeder companies to do work that MAINLINE's should be doing in the first place.

So Mesa pilots will be able to say the reverse about any new rates they are to negotiate. Your logic is about as sturdy as ALPO's.

It is the right move. Gets the flying back on the property. Once it is back they can work on pay later. Plus 190 pilots can bid to a higher paying airplane once they are senior enough.

In my opinion it is the only way to save the piloting profession. As long as the outsourcing is allowed, the pay and working conditions only get worse.

We can only hope that the rest of the majors follow suit. The 50 seaters are expensive to operate and are not a passenger favorite, so eventually most of the flying should be returned to the parent carrier. This is what the RJ should have been 10 years ago, entry airplane at a major carrier.

And yes, hourly payrate does not mean much when comparing the QOL issues and duty rigs of a Major contract. Only someone that has never flown under a good contract would argue that USAirs pay is less than Mesa's.

Even after being gutted and slashed in the BK process U's contract is much better than the best regional contract I ever flew under.

As always, your stupidity shines above all.

The flying isn't equivalent. Aside from the aforementioned contractual differences that make USA QOL superior, Mesa is only a contract carrier and like all the others subject to the whim of code-shares.

(Note: my statement isn't meant as a slam of Mesa pilots or any other small-jet pilots, I'm talking about the company only.)

Exactly. Besides, where would you rather work? Let see, a whole career at Mesa, or any other regional for that matter, or a whole career as a 190 CA at Airways. If you chose the regional, you chose wrong

IS this the part where you dazzle us with your knowledge of how regionals are somehow NOT competing in free markets and mainline is?

what are you talking about?

Some us factor in more than 15 vs 50 vs 70 vs vs 150 vs 250 seats behind us when making career and life choices...

Oh wait, I remember.. regional bad.. mainline good....i got it now.

Your numbers are skewed. Top pay on the E170 and E190 at RPA/SA is $108.47 and $119.32 respectively, and those numbers reflect the 10/07 ammendable date at max years. Top pay on the E190 at AAA is $102.56 reflective of the 10/15 date and 12 years.

Opinion? Yes. I remember when the goal was to always go thru the regionals to get to the majors. If you're happy at your regional, then by all means stay. The industry has changed and Mainline ain't what it used to be. But, eventually, I'll make a lot more cash at the majors and have better trip/duty rigs than at ANY regional.

True.

However, I thought that I had a good QOL at a regional......Until I got a seat at a major. Even sitting bottom reserve on a majors Contract and duty rigs beat being a line holding Captain at the regional.

However, that is my opinion.! :D

Us Airways pilots will fly big shiny new jets for regional wages just to make sure regional pilots don't fly the airplanes? Us Airways will work on better pay rates during next contract negotiations? OK this sounds like all the things everyone complains about the regionals and ecspecially Mesa. Under cut everyone and we will get the big new shiny jet and later we will stand up for ourselves and make more money. Remember those red stickers on all the Mesa pilot crew bags "Enough is Enough?" I guess the Us Airways guys don't think so because they are allowing themselves to get paid less than they should.

Come on guys see this for what it is. The Airways guys wanted to fly big new shiny jets for less than Mesa, CHQ, Rep, Shtl America would have.

By the way-doesn't the Amer west ( us air-west) have a scope clause saying the 190 can only be flown by mainline pilots? If true then the us airways pilots didn't have anyone to underbid but themselves!

Believe me, the airways guys would rather have their 30 year old big dingy jets back instaed of a jungle special.......however to ever do that and get the flying back they had to cut a deal to be able to assert control over their flying again. If all the majors follow suit to get their flying back, AND this time hold the line on their scope, you will see half the dirtbag regionals dissappear and leave only the good regionals and the majors left standing after the dust settles. Along with better control over wages and QOL for both regional and major.

I can always bid into bigger and better equipment later and get a nice raise ta boot. In fact, its better they be the lowest paid jet at a major vs the highest paid jet at a regional. And before you start cracking about USAir rates bringing down the bar, take a look at Jet Blue's 190 rates. Yuck.

"Believe me, the airways guys would rather have their 30 year old big dingy jets back"

I agree 100%. This isn't "shiny-jet-syndrome". This is a last-ditch attempt to hold on to some flying for a change!

Less than 10 years ago the biggest "regional" around had 37 seats. All of the sudden DC9s and F100s are gone, and airplanes are showing up at the regionals with 70,90+ seats?

If I was still a 737 pilot i'd be nervous! Bout' time they refused to allow any more outsourcing. Bring back the DC9's. Get new E190s. Doesn't matter. As long as mainline pilots are flying them.

As another side note.

USAirways and America West Combined is still SMALLER than USAir was in 2001 by it's self. (By about 1000 pilots and 100 airplanes give or take)

However USAirs flying has not decreased.......at least the flying done in USAir colors anyhow. The flying didn't dissappear, it was simply transferred to the regionals. USAirway guys have finally found a way to take some of it back.

Much better to be flying an RJ on a sen list that includes 767's and A330's...than one that just includes...well......you get the idea.
