According to PDT management (I know, consider the source!) so far we are up block hours to the point that we are adding one aircraft into the rotation and canceling the paint line for now to cover the flying. As mainline pulls down though, I still wouln't be suprised by some reduction as th need for feed decreases.

Yea, I was told in CQ that we will be adding to our block hours. They must be really needing the Dash 8's now. Especially since they decided to Fix 839EX after it was about to be a total loss with the hell damage (can't even guess what that cost). You would have thought they would have just turned it into Beer Cans then fix it. Oh well, but its US Airways we are talking about.

I'm not sure if 839 is owned or leased, but if it is leased it might cheaper to reapair it on our dime then send back with a ton of dings

Does PSA have minimum block hours? If you are pulling down flying, why continue flying non contract 50 seat RJ's when you can put Dash's on the routes instead? Everyone else has contracts, PDT has the fuel efficiency.

Lets just hope the cancelled flights from maintenance and "too hot for service" don't mitigate the advantages of the Dash.

bring on horizon's q200's and park psa's 50 seaters. thats what they would do if they attempted to be smart.

THe Q's to whom PSA? Sure fine. PDT HELL NO. Why would one wish that. I'd hope you were talking about PSA and not boosting yourself with this. If so you need to take a look because PDT would be as easy to cut as PSA. Just FYI.

PSA is wholly owned just like Piedmont. No contracts. I wish Piedmont would do all CLT-EWN, FAY, TRI, AVL.

Its a matter of perception, and being stubborn. People came to like jets, no matter how big or small they were, because the perception was that they were safer. PSA is locked into a multi-year lease with these 200's. OAJ used to have a sign on the departure board that said "JET SERVICE" on some of the outbounds to CLT. If they can get people to spread the word and buy tickets because a JET serves their town, than in the end...more money and more people with more frequency come to US.

The Dash is a better airplane for the North Carolina express, but perception is a better rope.

The plane doesn't matter. Its all about the ticket prices. They need to increase the prices of RJ flights, you want to fly a RJ from FAY-CLT then your gonna have to pay for it.

Do you think people would? I really dont think so.

Example 6 Flights a Day from FAY-CLT. 3 RJ's and 3 Dashes, with the Dash 8's being about 80.00 cheaper. I would beat you everyone would take the cheaper tickets and book the Dash's. The only thing these people want are cheap tickets and 1st Class service.

The 50 Seat RJ's will soon be history, we all know that. But they really do need to get them out of the 1hr or less markets and allow the Dash to do it.

From CLT-GSP the Dash burns 700lbs on a 22 minute flight, I doubt the RJ could come near that.

Come on Jelly, don't you think it would be smarter to Park Contract Carrier RJ's before our WO'ed ones. Look at Delta there doing that. Remember PSA/PDT put money into the kitty, and contract carriers take from it to make a profit.

I work for a contractor, and unless LCC goes into chapter 11 I don't see them drawing down our flying. We have a rock solid contract that still has 7 years left on it, that said I don't know what the contract for TSA, CHQ, and Mesa have in them. The W.O.s are easy to draw down from simply because there is no contract, and if there is no contract and you can find a home for the 50 seat jets overseas, they are as good as gone. I hate to see it, the PSA dudes are great guys, but until the contractors contracts come due, I don't see thier flying being drawn down.

i think i found a sensitive spot

Jelly was insensitive, but correct in a way.

If you want short haul lift in a high oil environment, you need turboprops. But who is to say, after it is all said an done, that ANY short haul lift will exist in the future? At some point oil may reach a point that it isn't profitable in any aircraft.

Tell that to the Mesa pilots that fly for Delta.

Mesa was brought down by performance, and was knocked down anyways with an injunction. If US wants to kill our contract they would have to pay the entire contract out, they don't have NEARLY enough cash for that.

US already said that they will not pull from the whollys, they said that they will pull from the contracts, and they already have from MESA. MESA's 50 seaters are coming up and US are canceling them one by one. PSA is OK for now..............

Wrong, Mesa wasn't knocked down by an injunction. They won the injunction to keep flying for Delta. Delta on the other hand figured it was Cheaper to Park the Planes and Pay the Per-Departure fee, then to pay for Gas on a plane that isn't making any money for them.

Nobody said US Airways would kill your (AW) contract. But with gas as high as it is, it might be cheaper to Scale back a lot of RJ 50 Seat Flying.

I dont think you have to worry about your contract lasting the next 7 years. I would be surprised if US Airways is still in business then.

Didnt PSA just furlough due to flying reduction?

I think we can all agree that we all might have a drawdown if that happens. ;)

Who knows what will happen, I certainly don't mean any ill will toward the wo's. I don't interact with the PSA folks that often, but I do with the PDT guys, and I have had nothing but good things to say. Heck, I even had one of them stop mid push to get me onto the last flight of the day during wx operations in PHL. Lets all hope oil comes down or we will all be looking for work sooner rather then later.

I predict when mesa dies, the reduction of rj's will be covered so much so that exjet will be there to pick up some slack until the bk
