US Airways just annouced that they will cut 1700 employees including 300 Pilots. They are also cutting 10 A320s and cancelling 2 A330 orders with further cuts to come in 2009 and 2010.

PSA will furlough 27 while maintaining the current fleet and reducing the number of flying hours.

Can't say we didn't see that coming.

Hmmmm, so nothing about Piedmont? I heard that Mainline was looking for us to do more flying, but with what I don't know. But I can see us adding a few more segments of flying, especially since the Dash burns about half the fuel as the RJ.

Maybe there is some truth to the fact they were looking to aquire 12 Q200's from Horizon.

Ahhhhh, you just gotta love this industry.

i wish the best of luck for the 27 from PSA, things are not lookin good at all right now. i even saw that they are increasing fees for non-rev travel and charging passengers for coffee and soft drinks.

Yes, I hope that Piedmont hires those that want to come over. I don't know if any would, but it beats being out of a job. Hope that PSA and Piedmont can get together and make sure any furloughed PSA people can get a job as PDT. I know we did it when ALG furloughed pilots.

Just a thought.

Any word on where other job cuts will come from?

I thought if you worked at one wholly owned, then you could not get hired at the other? USair doesnt want to fit the bill to train someone twice! Thats the way it used to be!

Don't know where the hell you got that.
Hmmm, then with that thinking why would they agree to Pref. Hiring at Mainline. Samething.

We did hire ALG pilots back in the Day after 9-11 when ALG furloughed and parked planes.

I think this would be a nice gesture to do.

This press release says Express will increase flying throughout this year and a little next year.

I wonder who will grow?

I can give two examples where your thought (strangely missing any bullsheet about PJ) is dead wrong.

One of which was a newhire with me, now a PSA CA.

Good luck, guys. What sucks the most is Houk gets to lie to people and keep his job-- how can you possibly be too overstaffed to allow pilots to interview at LCC, yet the very same month try to get voluntary LOA?

This industry is nuts.

J for J round two will not happen unless PSA gets more airplanes. Also, mainline is now USAPA. Different union, and different rules.

could be

Wonder what Stanley and Limp Dick Queer Coeling will pull out of their arse to explain this one.

PSA brothers.....get out and do it now! TK has marching orders to start pulling flying down in an attempt to deal with the clostly 50 seat RJ. Not good.....

Good luck Blustreakers..........Local ALPA Weak + High Oil = TK f..in around with numbers again

Have some respect. If you dislike our union this much then stop paying your dues and get your name put in the back of our contract.

True, kinda...and it will be round 3 or 4...I lost count. PSA, or RPA, to be specific. From the memos and last face to face I was in with a, LCC Asst. CP, (WB-CLT) LCC is not happy with Mesa, so I don't see anything going on there. Their contract is up in '12 (I think) and can't get here fast enough for LCC.

I can't see LCC purchasing/leasing anything to the PWOs right now. But, stranger things have happened.

Yes, but, no. The J4J protocols are still in affect through the LOAs. USAPA has to honor them or renegotiate them. If it happens, which I doubt, the main body of the J4J will stay. For know, J4J is dormant, unless they turn the E190s loose to an affiliate. LCC did it with the E170s, but there are scope issues with the E190s that would have to be resolved. I highly doubt USAPA will give up scope.

Last I looked, SkyWest is not a LCC Express affiliate...yet. Did I miss something?

Only the arrogance of some Skywest pilots thinking their company is the odds-on favorite for ANY replacement or growth small jet flying for ANY airline.

Mesa is on the way out, no doubt about it.

However, I don't think the net gain for RAH or Skywest will be anything dramatic.

Delta is trying to dump Mesa and Pinnacle because they don't need the lift, not because they want to replace it.

Very sad about the US Air pilots. Those guys have probably been on the property less than a year, and took huge paycuts to get there in the first place. On the other hand, they're probably in the best place to fly international for a few years (typed) then come back it they really want to take the huge pay cut.

as to this particular situation, who then is the 'odds on favorite'?

For replacing Mesa in the US Airways system?

I'd say "nobody"...but if Dougie gives you USX flying then good for ya...

Might be RPA. They just moved to the C Terminal in CLT and Mesa moved to the E Terminal. Picking up more Mesa weekend flights and some former PSA weekend stuff in July. Some might be seasonal flying.
