For this question, I know for sure the answer, No! More LOR's will not help your case for being pulled out of the pool any sooner.

What I meant by my last post is that if there is someone that is fairly high up here at UPS, (a Manager type) that is willing to put his/her name on the line and make the right calls to UPS to get your folder pulled, They might be able to get things rolling for a individual. Will this work, I dont know, I do know that more LORs will not help.

a great way to get on at fdx or swa--start class at brown and wait for the calls to come in--

folks are leaving! could it be first year pay...drumroll....$26,000--sweet
or could it be the the remaining years left or the contract and big brother browns treatment of their air-truck drivers.

sorry back to the discussion of the pool.

Hello All,

I have been watching the UPS posts for some time now and I see something here I must speak out on. First I am far from ever even thinking of looking for an airline job. No time, no jet, not alot of twin time either. I ask myself why would a company of that size and profit put people in a pool just because they like them, but never hire them? I think it is really sad for UPS and whoever else does it.
Some people out there have tried for years to get the interview and once they did was put into this pool with the not knowing when or even worse not ever getting called for a class. I am sure some people are putting their lives on hold for there dream company because they have been put into a pool. I would not be shocked if some lives has been messed up because of this and even some added pressure on their daily lives as well. Pressure of "when to move", "the spouse wondering when", "the freinds/family wondering when", and etc. I am sure the people in the pool can add to that. Can you guess what would would happen if the pilots told these companys that they will start when they want to? The person would never see the inside of the classroom!!
Does UPS and the others feel that they are so great that they can misslead people? Do they feel that "well if you REALLY want to work here you will have to wait?" How could a company such as UPS do that and not feel any type of guilt in never calling them to class? Hiring what UPS feels is "the best of best" and leaving the rest in the pool is wrong. FedEx hires who they feel are "the best of best" and places you right into class. There are no games of the pool, and they pay you more to start. I think if some guy or girl is willing to the first year pay of 26K, and make it through the interview with a "yes, we will hire you", they should start class. Do the people of UPS who do the interviewing remember what is was like when they were starting out? Or are they so high on their horse that they just don't give a danm? I think they are forgetting.
I do not know of one Fortune 100 company(other the UPS) that has a practice with hiring people and putting them into the pool. I would put money down on that they do not pull this with mangement or people who work in the warehouse.

It is really sad for them to do this to people. Really, really sad.

I hope that the water in the pool drains, and you all start class!!

Got the official call from Paige today for the 16 May class. It'll be a class of 18, mix of 7 FO's and 11 FE's. Looking forward to seeing you all in Louisville! Good luck!

UPS'ers. I too am a brown poolie. I interviewed early February and got the pool letter end of March. A lot of sitting around not knowing and having no direction in life.

I have flown a couple hundred hours since but I have not been able to update my UPS profile on the website as it's a read only file with the exception of the contact info. Anyone else having the same problem and anyone know how to update flight time on it?

I am really happy to be in the pool as UPS is my dream job. However it is disheartening to see some guys interviewing recently and bypassing the rest of us into class. It makes me wonder if I will ever get called. It also makes me want to start persuing FedEx and CAL just to cover my butt incase I never get the call from PD. I would prefer if UPS interviewed me and hired me if they liked me, or else cut me loose if they don't.

If or when we get into UPS and get a voice we should all remember this process and try to fix it for our fellow newhire brothers.
Cheers!

fb2, Congrats on the class, wish i could be there too. Please keep us posted on your progress and UPS news.

GB737, I learned the hard way not to wait around for the dream job. I was in a pool at what was at the time my 1st choice major. I put off interviewing at another major for several months thereby costing me anywhere from 1500-2000 seniority numbers because of a merger. After 2.5 yrs in the pool, my job offer was rescinded. Don't make the same mistake I did. Continue to apply and update elsewhere.

I have the same issue as far as the UPS update. I guess they only want updated contact info.

I'm sure most poolies agree with you about the hiring process. It is not a good way to start a relationship that could last up to 35 years. I really don't know what management thinks they gain by this process that would outweigh the negativity. Maybe a UPSer can enlighten us.

Let me be the first to offer my sincere appologies to all those pilots that are in our UPS "Pool" While getting a job here is (in my opinion) a very good thing, The realities of the Big Brown Machine will forever confuse those of us on the inside and you on the outs as well..

Why do they do what they do? Who knows! I remember talking with Paige 4 years ago right after we stopped hiring after 9/11. She had mentioned to me that when UPS began to hire again, that they were looking to impliment a few changes. She had mentioned to me some of the details and I was right up front with her about how I thought these were bad changes that would only complicate the process. We'll, 4 years later, No one listened to little ole me and now we have to live what they have done to the hiring process...

Its my hope that the people in charge here might see these latest pilots departure from here to both FedEx and SWA as a sign that things here can be improved upon. Its not likely to happen, but hey, I have to have hope...

Again, Sorry about the process, I hope all in the pool get hired real soon...

Is it sad? Yes...for the pilots. Not for the company. It looks carefully orchestrated from the outside. If you want to be at UPS badly enough, you will endure the pain. If you are on board and believe UPS is the only pilot job worth having for the remainder of your career, you will stay.

Kinda like joining the marines. If you don't like it you leave during the first year and do not poison the rest of the pilot group with your rebellious thoughts.

Hmmm...

Leave the first year after joining the Marines? Well, guess there would be several ways to accomplish that. But they would all end with an Big Chicken Discharge. Not the route I wish to take.

As for rebellious thoughts, have more than a few of those up here in NY.

Bad news for furloughees

Just talked to a friend at Brown that mentioned another newhire departed, this time to UAL of all places. Apparently the guy was on an absence of leave from UAL to start at UPS but somehow thought better of his decision and went back to UAL. I cannot even begin to think how this guy rationalized his decision. I hope he had a really darned good reason because he not only took a class space from somebody that really wanted it but apparently those in the UPS HR dept. are pissed and thinking about revisiting the policy of hiring furloughed pilots. I'm hoping that BBDC8 and others in the know can shed some light on this situation and how it may affect furloughees that are in the pool and those hoping for an interview. Hopefully those in HR recognize this departure for the anomaly that it is and not punish all furloughees for the actions of one buffoon.

PA$$engers = Pain in my A$$

You can't even say that they pay your salary anymore either cuz we subsidize their vacations.

That's too bad. I know of 22 pilots where I currently work that were shot down in the interview process. They did eventually hire 2, they didn't even wait in the pool -- 757 F/O right off. I can guarantee you none of these guys would have left UPS. Sad. I did hear they hired a female that had a dishonable discharge from the Air Force, yet turned down a Colonel in the Guard with an impeccable record. Is there a point where you guys are banging your head against the wall over there or what?
