I have been watching the UPS posts for some time now and I see something here I must speak out on. First I am far from ever even thinking of looking for an airline job. No time, no jet, not alot of twin time either. I ask myself why would a company of that size and profit put people in a pool just because they like them, but never hire them? I think it is really sad for UPS and whoever else does it.
Some people out there have tried for years to get the interview and once they did was put into this pool with the not knowing when or even worse not ever getting called for a class. I am sure some people are putting their lives on hold for there dream company because they have been put into a pool. I would not be shocked if some lives has been messed up because of this and even some added pressure on their daily lives as well. Pressure of "when to move", "the spouse wondering when", "the freinds/family wondering when", and etc. I am sure the people in the pool can add to that. Can you guess what would would happen if the pilots told these companys that they will start when they want to? The person would never see the inside of the classroom!!
Does UPS and the others feel that they are so great that they can misslead people? Do they feel that "well if you REALLY want to work here you will have to wait?" How could a company such as UPS do that and not feel any type of guilt in never calling them to class? Hiring what UPS feels is "the best of best" and leaving the rest in the pool is wrong. FedEx hires who they feel are "the best of best" and places you right into class. There are no games of the pool, and they pay you more to start. I think if some guy or girl is willing to the first year pay of 26K, and make it through the interview with a "yes, we will hire you", they should start class. Do the people of UPS who do the interviewing remember what is was like when they were starting out? Or are they so high on their horse that they just don't give a danm? I think they are forgetting.
I do not know of one Fortune 100 company(other the UPS) that has a practice with hiring people and putting them into the pool. I would put money down on that they do not pull this with mangement or people who work in the warehouse.
It is really sad for them to do this to people. Really, really sad.
I hope that the water in the pool drains, and you all start class!!
