UPS, Pilots Reach Accord in Contract Negotiations (from AirUPSers.com)

The Independent Pilots Association and UPS Airlines today announced a tentative agreement on a new labor contract.
The agreement provides for wage and pension improvements and a variety of changes to work rules. It also enables the company to reward its pilots in a responsible manner, maintaining the flexibility needed to serve customers and expand the business while remaining competitive.

Specific details of the accord will not be disclosed before the IPA presents the tentative contract to all UPS pilots. The contract must be ratified by a majority of UPS’s 2,700 pilots. If ratified, the contract would not become amendable until the end of 2011.

According to the IPA, a vote by the pilots probably will be completed by mid-September.

“This tentative agreement has been unanimously approved and endorsed by both the IPA Executive Board and its pilot negotiating committee and is one we will present to our membership for ratification without hesitation,” said IPA President Tom Nicholson. “It includes immediate improvements to pay as well as percentage increases in future years while also improving pension benefits and work rules.”

“We have negotiated a fair, balanced contract that’s good for our pilots and good for the company,” said John Beystehner, UPS’s chief operating officer and president of UPS Airlines. “We are pleased the IPA leadership team fully endorses the agreement.”

Both Nicholson and Beystehner said they “commend the National Mediation Board (NMB) for its guidance during negotiations and especially the expertise provided by Linda Puchala, our primary mediator. The NMB has been instrumental in getting us to this point and provided the resources we needed, including the services of John Livingood, who also participated as a mediator.”

We're up to three threads now announcing that UPS has a TA.

Anyone want to set the over and under for the total number of threads on this subject when all is said and done?

I didn't realize they were that close in the negotiations. When did things start moving in the right direction?

When the post office offered them a 100 million dollar contract with a few stipulations regarding labor issues....................

Congrats to the UPS pilots. Hopefully the TA will be up to snuff.

Its not like 100M is that big of a deal to UPS but I guess the US Post Office is funding the new pay increases and helped speed up a TA...good for you guys.

Now...I was hired due to the fact that FDX got a 7 year 7 BILLION dollar contract...hmmm...remind me what we (the pilots) got in return??? Shame on us.

TIME FOR THE COMPANY TO START SHARING THE WEALTH. Now is the time boys and girls...can you see it? Its right there in front of you, don't let it pass you by.

Please tell me those payrates that Uncle Leo posted are from the old contract and not the new TA!!!!

It will be interesting to see how the vote goes (expected to be 1-31 Aug)...I've looked at about half of it and won't say what my opinion is (don't shoot the messenger), but I'm already hearing a lot of grumblings about the signing bonus (60K/40K/30K) vs. full retro, our medical going up, first year pay (still only around 33K vs. your 50K at FedEx), no increase in A funding and the pay being sub-par to the company's record profits. On the bright side, we are finally joining the "cool kids" and getting leather jackets!

They also announced we are all getting $3300 for the company's late integration of Menlo flying. Seems folks aren't happy about that either...they were expecting 10K or so.

It will be an interesting couple of weeks while we all break out the 325 pages.

Hubby's in training, so no prancing around :(

This statement pretty much sums it up for me...

Why are first year pay rates so low?
The 25% increase in first year pay was disappointing to the extent we were unable to convince the company to honor an inflation adjusted increase as an absolute minimum. They dug in hard on this issue. It has been said that first year pay expresses what the company feels it's employees are worth while subsequent years expresses what the union can negotiate.

Well, if they want to take a chance on a tool like you, they can get rid of your sorry butt and not lose a lot of money after the end of the first year.

33K:laugh:    Sorry coudn't resist.  Sounds like you guys really look after the newbies.

You're a TWISTED child upper! Me thinks you feel more at home in Bangkok.

OK OK and now back to the thread topic. More details on the TA please. Heading to work today and want some good info for stimulating cockpit discussions. No seriously, lets have some of the highlights! ...please!

It's dissapointing seeing the first year guys still being shafted by the management and senior pilots. The guys coming in have to be so experienced because of current mins and then you insult them with the pay. From what I understand the first year guys are not part of the union and this is why they getting shafted. Is this true?? If so, shame on the pilot group for allowing these overqualified first year Fos and Sos getting paid this crap.

It's not just UPS, it's every airline that pays crap the first year. Don't know how others work, but FDX is a little misleading in 1st year pay. Per the contract, newhires get $2k per month while in newhire training (for md11 guys, this is 3-3.5 months). Only after a newhire activates (after IOE), do they go to 1st year pay.

It think it's a bunch of b.s., but I'm sure there are reasons why it's this way.

Don't know about highlights, but really the one thing that sticks out to me is the first year pay and signing bonus. This is gonna cost senior guys thousands. As far as pay goes, it brings us up to about, but not quite what FE pilots make now. Medical is going up, but that was expected. Have not read the scheduling section yet, which is in my opinion, the most important. Get back to you on that one.

Again, first year pay, most disappointing.

Just wondering if there is any overide pay for A-380, or is a 15 year A-380 Capt. going to make the same as narrow body Capt.
