UPS Hiring Issues?

So, what's the word around the water cooler in Louisville? Is that 727 fleet retirement coming to fruition? What would be the effect on hiring if(when) the Age 65 rule changes? The word at FedEx is that the hiring is going to slow down as a result...how about Brown?

I know one thing - something's wrong with the online application process right now. It's there one minute and gone the next. Rumor is they've outsourced part of the process. Also there's some sort of online psych eval now I've heard. Not sure though. 727s are going away by the end of 2007. Depends on whom you ask what thay means for hiring. We're still short of pilots. The age 65 rule won't take effect for at least 18 months they say, so we will still need to hire this year. ANC domicile is growing, and there are many unfilled MD-11 and 747-400 F/O vacancies up there.

Yeam um...courvossier is the drink, but I have also been known to induldge, from time to time, in some of the finest boxes of Mexican wine...I would welcome the opportunity to "chill" in Anchorage, while finding out what I can do for Brown.

Where are you at now? "Chillin" somewhere, or burning up "120 on, 120 off"?

I'm chillin' in ANC now, and plan on staying. Hopefully will trade in the green suit for a brown one!

We have never really been short pilots. The way we use pilots is not efficient, but that is not the point. More importantly we are critically short of airplanes. Because of the way UPS staffs more airplanes means a lot more pilots. That's also why I don't see the age 65 thing being that big of a driver.

UPS was short over 200 f/o slots on the last bid. Not sure what you are talking about in regards to not being short? I will agree with your statement about not using pilots efficiently. Don't know if they will ever get that one right. More airplanes to come- I agree with that one too. What it comes down to- UPS is short Period!

I flew with a mid-level captain recently who has flown 1600 hours in the last 15 years. We could do the entire operation with less pilots if UPS did not require so many on reserve. More airplanes mean more pilots anyway you slice it though.

Online app problems

Hey guys,

I noticed too that the online application is maybe a bit messed up? I had applied back in November already and it really wasn't more than a sort of filtering process; i.e., a short questionaire about whether or not you even meet the requirements to apply. After filling it out, never heard anything back. Have a friend giving me a recommendation and he is puzzled too. Talked to him yesterday, and he mentioned keeping my time up to date with brown, but I never even was given an application to fill out any flight time.... And now the link to Flight officer on the careers page is gone. Any ideas? Thanks.

So, I can stay in my current regional job and get called every week for a JA or I can try to get on with Brown and get JA calls every week? Fabulous!! Sounds like the industry standard...
