so are you really saying if they paid more the blizzard would not have happened? give me a break. They would still be stuck, and would still be receiving the same service.

Yep-They could have paid 4x and still be crapped on by Mrs. Lee at the ATL check-in counter.

Like we can control the weather and the aftermath a blizzard produces. I don't feel sorry for a single one of these idiots spouting off about our customer service....they are getting exactly what they have been demanding and paying for: CHEAP tickets! If they don't like it then they can drive, take Greyhound or Amtrack.

You cannot control the weather but as an employee you CAN have a positive impact afterwards.

Gup

I agree with Gup to a point. I have been on cancelled and delayed flights. These situations are not easy for either party to handle. For example. Several years ago, I flew from LGA to BWI the day after Thanksgiving. Due to weather, my flight was first delayed and then cancelled. Afterwards, the airline customer service reps. did their best to calm and help the inconvenienced passengers. But, for some reason, once these passengers got frustrated and pissed-off, that was their mind set for the rest of the night. Unfortunately, the recent snow storm that plagued the east coast was a test of will and patience for airline passengers and customer service reps. alike.

Interresting were some of the comments after the article:

"ANYONE who flies these days is a sheep or a fool. These airports treat people like GARBAGE and if you DARE say word one about it, you are told YOU are the problem and then threatened. Screw em, let them go out of business.
I refuse to fly anymore."

"Despite the fact that it will take 7 hours to travel what I could drive in 4.5 hours or fly in 2, I am so glad I'm taking Amtrak home for the holidays.
No gridlock getting out of the city or icy roads. No security lines. And I get to watch Season 5 of "The Office" without being told to turn off my electronic devices."

"A similar situation developed at LAX on Sunday. My son, whose flight from ONT to JFK was among the hundreds of flights canceled in anticipation of the snowstorm, had been advised by Delta staff at ONT to go to LAX ($62 van ride), where he found a line that extended from the terminal outside (into the lovely 62 degree LA weather). While serenely waiting in line for 6-1/2 hours (a kindly Delta agent put him on that evenings redeye for JFK), police were summoned several times to calm the maddened crowd."

If you think the airline is going to pay you more if they start charging more for tickets, then you are a good little employee. Not the case - some passengers pay plenty for their ticket! Either way, you should not become so cynical to think you are better than anybody else! Treat others the way you expect to be treated, even thousands of passengers crowded into a poorly designed and managed terminal. That's right, each and every person is in the holiday spirit before they get to JFK/LGA/LAX.

God forbid you ever have to buy a ticket..... which one are you going to buy, the cheap one, or the expensive one? Who will you be then - depends on your perspective.

Funny thing is most airline families often buy tickets and are also part of the unruly crowds. :)

This storm is only the beginning...another big one expected to blanket the midwest starting tonight into Christmas day moving east! they should get a ringside bell at JFK for round number 2! maybe they could get one of those hot chicks to walk around holding a #2 sign in a thong! that's my christmas wish

I feel bad for the front line agents...they take a lot of abuse, thus the reason most of them are beyond grouchy all the time....Not an excuse, but understandable...
