Doug Parker and the new US Airways would take those "electric jets" if we could get the right deal. Retire the 737 fleet right now and reap the benefits of improved fuel usage in 2009. The key will be getting Airbus to use the $90+M to pay off our 737 leaseholders and then delivering the new aircraft at a rate that we can train too. 3 A/C a month for the next year and 1/2 would be an easy do. If we could convert orders some to A321s and help retire the 757s early, I'm sure management would be up for that as well -- we are getting the new improved 321s this Fall. Has to be an "almost zero" cash input for LCC though, Doug won't want to spend any money that he's holding in reserve. I'm sure Airbus is shopping the jets at an attractive rate and with LCC being the launch customer for the 350 XWB, you'd think they'd throw us a bone. What a loss for United.
