United Airlines Goes Beyond AM, Beyond FMTM with In-Flight Music Programming by XM Satellite Radio

March 02, 2006
Chicago, March 2, 2006 – United Airlines today announced it has enhanced its onboard audio entertainment beginning this month with music programming provided for United by XM Satellite RadioÓ. As part of United's continuous improvement of the customer experience, this enhancement offers customers up to 19 new and exciting channels for in-flight audio entertainment.*
"Giving our customers an enjoyable flight experience is important to us, and we will continue to look for opportunities to improve upon what we already offer," says Dennis Cary, senior vice president-Marketing, United Airlines. "We are pleased to provide our customers this enhanced audio programming developed by XM Satellite Radio, as it supports our goal to provide innovative services to our customers."

Now for a promotional period, customers traveling on United will be able to listen to as many as 19 music channels provided by XM for United, giving customers a taste of XM's exclusive, commercial-free music channels. With this sampling of XM's music content, United customers will get a greater in-flight variety of music genres, popular artists and specialty niche channels -- such as Top 20 on 20 for latest hits, Suite 62 for adult R&B, Highway 16 for country fans, the Blend for adult contemporary, Top Tracks for classic rock, XM Pops for classical music, Bluesville to hear jazz and blues and Soul Street for classic soul.

"XM Satellite Radio offers an extraordinary variety of music for all kinds of tastes, and we're very pleased that United Airlines' customers will have the opportunity to sample the exclusive, commercial-free music channels that have helped make XM the nation's leading satellite radio company," said Howard Jacobs, senior vice president-Strategic Partnership Marketing, XM Satellite Radio.

A full description of XM programming available on United flights can be found in the March issue of United's in-flight magazine, Hemispheres.

*Number of XM Satellite Radio selections varies by aircraft type.

Note that this is only offered during the promotional period-- so it's either going away or they'll be charging for it later. Now you can fly United's PS service from the West Coast, Mainline, Regional, Regional with first class or even TED. Gees, as a customer, you might not even know what you'll get until you get there, because again, the XM won't be offered on all aircraft immediately... At least with Airtran, Southwest or Jetblue-- you know what you're getting!!!

In this reading, you'll find no mention of live XM so we can assume that this "sampling" is just that, pre-recorded XM music-- which is not what you get with Jetblue's or Airtran's XM which is LIVE (which is great for sports and news)... Not exactly what I'd call flattering...

Tv and Radio is that the secret to the LCCs success?

No it's our people that is the secret to our success-- Now, the IFE system does help with filling 81.8% of our seats-- and you'll find free tvs in all of jetblue's planes and tv/xm in our 190s and soon our 320s also will have xm capability... and we'll have over 125 channels of xm, not 19 pre-recorded ones...

Unlike you, Snake/Einstein/Chuckie/Lawman/TexasJetJockstrap, I only have one name on this board. I've been Ty Webb since 2001.

Plenty of AirTran pilots know who I am, and also know who Best Pilot is, so if you want to continue to look stupid, just continue to claim that we are the same person.

Come to think about it, you're going to continue to look stupid no matter what, so hey, have at it.

Ahh yes the great people like the management team that sells tickets for less than the cost to operate the airline(see Indy Air).......81.8% full flights and still in the red(see Indy Air)..can't blame the TVs and the 125 chaannels of radio on that..
