What is the most likely base for newhires and what equip? I know Denver is senior but how long do you think it would take to get Denver?

Any current UAL pilots have the current F/o openings?

The recent pilot vacancies are on the 300 and the Airbus. Most junior bases are ORD and DCA, though SFO is close behined them, they have had fewer vacancies as of late.
If your goal is to be domiciled in Denver, take the 300 and start asking for a lateral. The most junior aircraft at Denver is the 300.
Good Luck

And get those foodstamp applications ready, looks like you'll need them for a few years.

Seriously, I was getting excited when I saw that United was ramping up. Then I saw the payscales. How depressing.

Is there any hope for signifcant improvement?

when you say 300 are you talking about the 737-300 or the 767-300?

Here's a little help.

737-300 is known as the "Three hundred" or "Guppy"

A319/A320 are known as "The Bus"

757/767 are known as the "Seven Five" or "Seven Six" some prefer to drop the first seven and call them "Fifty Seven" or "Sixty Seven"

777 pretty easy "Triple Seven"

747-400 = "The Four Hundred" or "Whale"

You might want to learn these while you are networking for your job at UAL :D

It's the Airbus A-300. United found a bunch of surplus 300's from the old Varig that are being used for all the international growth. They are junior because many at United would rather fly the B777 overseas. They are especially junior in DEN because pilots don't trust the single-engine performance data on high density altitude days.

Hope this helps.

off the top of my head I remember something about UAL closing their NY base a year or two ago. Did this happen? If it didn't is it in the works? If it did I would assume the closest PHL area base would be IAD/DCA/BWI then, correct?? Do you cover all 3 or just IAD/DCA?

Thanks

Ummmm, yeah....I'm gonna have to raise the BS flag on this one. No offense Puppy, but UAL only flies the A320 and A319. A300's aren't in their fleet.

What is the average time to hold a west coast base?

About an hour...

DCA based guys cover all three (DCA, BWI, IAD), but if you're on a 777 chances are you won't get a trip out of DCA or BWI...

If I'm not mistaken, the 777 is also called "bigfoot".

As far as the A300's, my understanding is that they will mostly be based out of Brazil (Rio) and the company is just not willing to offer up a good enough deal for those wanting to bid the overseas domicile. They expect you to cover the cost of your kids private school and only give you one positive space pass back to the US a year (in coach). They may have to force newhires to take the A300 bids.

Apparently Guppy, I stand somewhat corrected? Was not aware that this was in motion already...I thought it was still rumors.

Play on.

Geeze!!! this is kinda funny, but also sad. I thot the whole A-300 thing was bs as well. then i thot maybe it wasnt.....and now im back to bs! with fedex looking at intl bases and ups expanding to ANC and other smaller airline setting up bases outside the US, can we really know for sure going forward whether something like this is truly BS?? lol!

Well i continue to hold on to a belief i learned long ago. It is not truth until its sitting on the ramp, and then it doesn't mean that it will be there for long.
thats as close to any certainty in aviation as i have come to!

I could barely read it without laughing in the Terminal but they bought it HOOK/LINE/SINKER - Good one Puppy..............lol

Could I get Schipol's and bodiddlyASA's (or whatever...) phone numbers? I've got this great deal going with oil well leases and this company called American Entertainment Fund that's right up their alley.

And we wonder why we have such crappy contracts... TC

Actually the proper name for the 777 is the Triple-ah!!! Just rolls off the tongue, you know. And you guys leave Schipol alone. He's Dutch; isn't that WEIRD!!!!

UAL doesn't have the 767-300 in their fleet.

Also, the bottom aircraft in the fleet are going to have the lowest seniority. UAL has:
747-400
777
757/767-200
A319/320
737-300

UAL will not be adding another aircraft type any time soon. I did, however, find Guppy's A300 statement hilarious. He pulled that one off with no indication that it was sarcasm. Nice, Gup.

Ahhhh Andy, I flew a 767-300 last week and I am sure I work for UAL and it was painted in UAL colors.

I think you ment no 767-200's!

Just a few questions for current UAL pilots:
1) Monthly average in terms of flight time?
2) List of domiciles from the most junior tothe most senior;
3) % amount of contractual raise to be expected on 01/2008
4) "B & C Funds" ? Are those available still?

Thanks.

Um What are the chances of flying the F-22 for UAL or is this a Senior Airplane too! Also if Lets say I'm a Openly Gay Black/Hispanic thats part Lesbian would this help in getting a captain upgrade faster or a better base or more money at UAL?

Ok I've been flying for NJA now for over 3 yrs and after reading some of these stupid questions being asked I couldn't resist. Ok this doesn't apply to AMDflyer

1) Junior line holders typically have lines built to 90-95 hours on the narrowbodies with currently limited ability to trip trade. I don't know about the reserve guys but I would guess they get treated like rented mules on the narrowbody side.

2) don't know, but generally ORD is junior and DEN is senior. The rest fall in-between depending upon fleet and seat.

3) I think we're getting a 1.5% raise with another 1% being added to our B/C fund for a total of 16%

4) see above, tax deferred

Hopefully someone will have more detailed info, but the above should be pretty close.
