Noticed anytime a UAL aircraft is parked at the gate, the wing (inspection?) light (the one that shines back on the leading edge) is always on... procedure or UALism or forgetfulness?

bored,

We always had to have them on for the walk around. (UAL SOP) Most guys would turn them on when they first showed up to the jet then do the walk around come back upstairs and forget that they were on for about 15 mins. We would usually remember to turn them off right about the time we're calling for a push.

That's a good idea having that on for the walkaround...

Then again my property didn't want to invest in logo lights for night running because of the weight and cost for the "option"......yet the idiots will lose billions on fuel hedges.....oh well

We forget them at Alaska too. :0

OK thanks... so you had to check that one tiny little light but not the rest of them during the walkaround?

Light bulbs + AA = same cheapness... all new tail logo lights (777, 737) deactivated for cost savings! Also, straight out of the MD80 flight manual... "Please limit the use of retractable wing landing lights... when extended, they create vibrations and waste fuel"... Unbelievable!

Or, in response to your original question, we just don't give a @#%& anymore.

There are lights for that? When did they put those on?

Try and check your wings at night for ice....before takeoff or in the air, and that little light will mean more to you if it works.
