One thing HOU has is it's great cost of living which is probably 1/2 of each of the ual bases. This significantly increases cal's relative pay. can't imagine anyone entranched in Htown would want to move to sfo, iad, den, la, or sea. Of course, seniority prevails. One of the best "deals" UNICAL offers the CAL guys is nice domciles.... Depending on CAL seniority a pilot could say "Hey honey instead of living in HOU/EWR... how does DEN, IAD, LA, SFO or SEA sound?
Seniority has its rights, perks.... and privileges!!
Similar to what southwest does. Gonna be hard to force many out of iah. There will be no forcing juniors out of base. You can only bid what is vacant.

How are the SFO 767/757 trips structured? Mainly domestic? Flights to Hawaii? LAX turns?
I strongly recommend IAH, it's a wonderful base with mild temps and no mosquitoes. We have a very low crime rate and illegals are kicked out immediately. We have rolling hills and beautiful views of oil fields. You won't 'regret' it....promise.
Wow...I'm surprised that SFO is/was junior. I guess it's the cost of living. ORD I can see and even IAD (cost of living) but I would not have guessed SFO being junior.
What kind of international flying/equipment do you guys have out of IAD?
Thanks to both posters for answering this question. Reason I'm so curious is that while we currently live in Houston, we're seriously contemplating moving back east and hence the reason for wanting to know the type of equipment that UAL has been flying out of that base.
We're actually considering moving to Raleigh and commuting to IAD but I would only want to commute to larger equipment flying international stuff.
Thanks again!
Looking to find out how senior the United bases rank. I'm guessing IAD is one of the more junior bases but that is purely a guess.
Force??? I'm sure many will leave as soon as DEN, ORD, SFO, IAD, and LAX are available to bid vacancies.
Time will tell. Nobody knows what is going to be negotiated. Remember that one persons garbage is another's treasure. I will welcome the chance to get back to the northeast and bid EWR.
What is the chance (% wise) of a UAL bubba taking the CAL deal and getting IAH based? I live here in IAH now, be nice not to commute.
P.S. I have 11 years with UAL and on the top of the furloughed/hostage list
I feel for you being furloughed at 11 years and will welcome you to CAL as per the TP & A. Not trying to doubt you, but how are you a hostage? UAL has on average 1.67 more pilots per aircraft than CAL. The CAL furloughs were completely unnecessary, and were a management ploy. The furloghes were offered their jobs back on more than one occasion; if CAL pilots would sign off on a letter of agreement that would basically allow more outsourcing and code/revenue sharing. The company has operated short staffed for two years, now they don't need the LOA's signed because they are merging. So here they come back to the line. UAL furloughs are a product of outsourcing, which does not denote being a hostage. Please correct me if I am misinformed.

In the words of king ****************************** bag tilton, "UAL was right sized for this merger" so he/I and 1435 other pilots were taken as "Hostages" so he could get his check.
Didn't even know UAL had a base in SEA... How big (or small) is it?
