FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Statement from Captain Steve Wallach, Chairman, United Master Executive Council, Air Line Pilots Association, Regarding United’s ‘Innovative’ Partnership With Aer Lingus

“The day after reporting one of its worst quarterly financial results in history and after furloughing an additional 254 pilots (bringing the total to 606 pilots), United Airlines announced today that it has entered into what it calls an ‘innovative’ partnership with Aer Lingus.

“Aer Lingus has advised the Irish press that this joint venture will operate an Aer Lingus aircraft with neither United nor Aer Lingus employees, under a separate operating certificate and under newly established wages and working conditions. Obviously, this partnership will be accomplished at the expense of United’s and Aer Lingus’ own pilots and other employees. This development, where United attempts to establish an airline operation without the use of United aircraft or employees, is nothing less than the outsourcing of jobs to an international company, and clearly demonstrates that this management continues to make business decisions without regard to its pilots and other employees.

“The United pilots are exploring every option to put an end to the company’s blatant disregard and lack of loyalty to the United Airlines brand.”

Nobody listened when Freedom A List happened - Nobody listened when GoJet happened - Hopefully the Legacy Pilots will 'LISTEN UP" NOW !!!!

Uhmmm....no they won't. See they can't believe it's happening so it isn't happening. ALPA will send a strongly worded letter (as you've already seen) Demanding that management respect their rights. Managment will laugh at alpa, through some more FPL money at them and tell them to grieve it. The grievance and system board and everything will last close to 5 years, ALPA will have lots of FPL and guys getting paid to "show they are fighting the evil wicked management team at UAL" ALPA's hack lawyers will screw it up in the 9th hour, and UAL mgmt will walk away with what they need. The ability to outsource while furloughing UAL pilots, and ALPA, will not do a thing about it, because, well those are the Jr. guys getting furloughed and they need to pay their dues anyways. blah blah blah

Ok ALPA, come up with something unique besides the strongly worded letter....Hmmmm..what could that be. Your taking it back. So I dunno. Stand down every international flight for a day???? Democrat in office, plead your case and run with it. At what point does ALPA draw the line in the sand???? They won't...that's the problem....

You nailed it.
So much banter about the legal ramification to the union via a job action BUT what other tool do we have???
What point is enough? especially with Tilton who has showed repeatedly his disdain for the UAL pilots and it's employees... Anyone?

Yeah, this one is BS. It just amazes me how far people will go to save a few bucks on pilots.
I am guessing that if they ever added up all of the start up, legal cost, etc we being paid a good wage is still cheaper than all of this crap.

Anyone remember when Ryan Air started routes for AirTran???? Now AirTran has those routes.

Lets stop hearing Wallach pounding his chest and lets start seeing him DO SOMETHING.

Airtran guys can chime in but I believe this was a short term solution because tickets were already sold and the 737 couldn't come fast enough.

I've been waiting for Kalitta and Aer Lingus to join forces. The callsign alone would attract new customers and start the industry turnaround.
