OK, For those of us on the outside (I was previous ALPA so understand how the system works but some will not) how did it get to this point? Do you not have to actually negoitated? Been in mediation? Gotten released from mediation? Gotten to a "Cooling off point"? Etc.? has these steps already happened or is this ALPA trying to take a stand to show management "WE MEAN BUSINESS"? Not flaming but confused!!!
Thx,
From us non-ALPA types (I burned all that stuff when I left)

Umm, we've been in negotiations and mediation for quite a long time. The Chairman of the Mediation Board is personally going to oversee this weeks final get together w/ management. Nothing else is even scheduled after this week. This a vote to authorize a strike. Doesn't mean it will happen. Sends a message to management that if they don't come to terms soon, the release might be around the corner.

It's been a long road, and it's been discussed a lot on this forum and in the media. I'm surprised you're confused...

Ahhhh how times pass....members in good standing with "unfortunate dates of hire" voting to strike.....

Strike vote will pass with a large margin.

It means NOTHING.

The U.S. gubbermint will never allow the one of the biggest carriers in the world to strike, and management knows this. The vote is largely ceremonial at best.

That being said, I wish like hell you could. The RLA is an antiquated piece of crap, and we should NOT be held to it. Lots of European carriers can strike MUCH easier, and there is no reason that US carriers shouldn't be able to do the same. It's absurd to be bound by a fcking contract that was written back near the turn of the damn 19th century for an intercontinental railroad system that if shut down, would bring the nation to a grinding halt.

Damn I hate the gubbermint more every day.

I voted NO. Don't worry it will still pass but voting yes because I am told to is silly. What is the point of having the right to vote if I have to do what I am told? I voted no because I do not believe in striking over 50 seat only scope.

I don't supposed you could be talked into suicide could you?
