Gov. Rick Perry said today that during his week-long Asian trip, he talked with representatives of Air China about direct flights between Dallas/Fort Worth and China. The governor - and a contingent of business and political leaders - have been visiting Shanghai, Beijing and Taiwan to promote Texas and boost exports and create jobs in the state. In a conference call this morning from Taiwan, Perry said he and Air China reps discussed establishing direct links between China and both DFW and Houston's Bush airport. And he said he talked with businesses that want to invest in the Lone Star State.

Said Perry: "The stops were really focused on jobs and exports, foreign direct investment coming into Texas and a couple of companies that are very interested in coming into Texas from the standpoint of major investment in the Houston and the Corpus Christi areas."

The state delegation began the trip to China at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai last week. Perry said lots of people are visiting the Texas pavilion. He said a popular feature of the Texas exhibit is a trick roper from Bandera, Kevin Fitzpatrick. The trip for Perry and the first lady is being paid for by private businesses with ties to Texas.
