AT AA, anyways, if you were a PFE (professional flight engineer who would never upgrade), you got 2 stripes.

If you were a newhire FE (second officer who would eventually upgrade), you got 3.

I've seen Eva crewmembers with 3 and a half stripes before. (4th stripe is narrower. Worn by FOs who are typed in the aircraft)

What's with flight attendants wearing two stripes? Do they really think they're going to get a third?

Well, in 9 years in the Navy, I never got more than 2 stripes. The instant I got hired at an airline, they gave me three. Woo Hoo!

I had 3 stripes when I was riding side saddle in a 727, so did the FO.

The only distinction between us was that the FO wings had a star on top and the FE wings didn't.

The only number of stripes that should matter is the number of Red Stripes in the fridge.
