With a couple thousand SD3-60 hours, I have a very different perception. No autopilot, not a servo in the airframe anywhere, but an aircraft that was a lot of fun to fly, would take a lot of punishment, and would make you a dang good pilot.

Tragic to lose a crew this way. Condolences to all.

I'm speechless.

I flew with Todd many years ago when I was extremely wet behind the ears in the Shed. He was a top notch captain and an extraordinarly nice guy. I remember talking to him over ATC a few years ago after recognizing him climbing out of ROC. Amazing just how small this community ends up being. My deepest sympathies go out to families of the lost. You guys speculating away will have no clue how bad you are acting until the day comes when it is someone you know who fate takes away.

I guess we have to wait until a plane full of jet fuel crashes into one of our friend's or relative's houses, before we can comment on what we read about in the news.

I'm sure individuals like you mean no disrespect. However there are plenty of blowhards on here who think their brains are vast pools of aviation knowledge that give them the right to preach down on any accident. Those are the ones who I am speaking towards.
After losing one of my best friends to an accident (almost five years to the day) I get pretty annoyed at the "what were they doing there" types running their yaps when the wreckage has barely been cleared.

I find myself speculating about what went wrong with alot of accidents..then I kick myself immediatly in the arse because I was not there and I will not judge their actions. Instead I wait and hear what happened then I look at it as a lesson that our fellow aviators gave their lives to teach us. I think most experienced pilots can recall at least one time where they thought after the fact "damn that was close", as the sweat rolls off our heads with a sigh of relief.

I have flown with Todd many times just before I left for Iraq with the Army. Ive said it before, and I'll say it again, he was one of the Best they had. I think everyone else who has flown with him would agree.

you're being pretty defensive, the article sheds some perception of culpability off of the pilots flying the ACC planes and as well as the guys that maintain the planes. If you saw differently, then go screw.

liveatc.net has archived atc recordings.. I found the archive for that timeframe... 17 seconds into it there was a call.. "mayday mayday Shorts 372.." then an unreadable transmission.

I really hope this isn't true. I met the Captain of the surviving airplane about a year ago when he was an FO on the Shorts, and he seemed like a great guy. From what I've heard from a friend at ACC, it sounds like Andy did an excellent job of getting that damaged airplane back on the ground. He certainly doesn't deserve to take any heat from some overzealous prosecutor.
