I read the complaint. The TWA pilot's case is weak. 90% of the claims will be impossible to prove. I saw a lot of claims that will be easily refuted by a much stronger and better funded ALPA legal team.

I hope someone slams ALPA. Mesaba's union reps are lap dogs to national-they would barely admit that a bunch of us were slammed on our seniority but never once admitted that we were treated unfairly-even though many of my group in Mesaba got 2:1 or even 3:1 on our seniority. But hey as they said....as long as the Senior mesaba pilots got a good deal.....WTF! If you were hired between 2001 and 2004/5 you got the serious shaft-I wish I could join you TWA people in your fight against ALPA

Maybe you should give up on your Hawaiian desires than as most of us here are stand firmly behind ALPA.

I have been stabbed in the back by ALPA-I am not saying there are not good people that work for the local MEC-all I am saying is that I have learned not to trust ALPA-if you lost as much seniority as I have, you would understand. ALPA is wrong in the matter that it does not have a system in place to cover mergers. Mr Bloch handed a decision over that effectively prevents me from staying at Mesaba if I wanted to. ALL the 2001-2004 hires at mesaba know we were handed an unfair deal. SO what you are saying is that I should go on trusting an organization that effectively took half my seniority and have it to much junior pilots at another airline?

I have desires to work at good airlines that have good people. I am and have actively volunteered for ALPA supporting our pilot group. Yes I am disappointed in ALPA and think the organization needs to be held accountable. DO you disagree with this Jim? Do you think I should still trust ALPA after going from the high 300's in seniority to the mid 1200's after they merger our lists? That I should trust them after losing over 7% seniority while many gained 5-10% in relative seniority and bidding power? That my current union leadership with national members in attendance used questionable methods to come up with seniority percentages arguing against those of us who lost the most-saying that it was for the greater good (leaving out the fact that they greatly increased their own personal gains in relative seniority).

I like how you are quick to judge a mans character and push him away from a good airline (everything I have heard) when you do not know or just ignore the reasons why he has the opinions he has. I served in the Army for 14 years, am a disabled veteran, former officer, and a good husband, father and friend. I am so glad to know that there are guys like you at Hawaiian that want to push guys like me away from Hawaiian. I take offense at your comment and will not judge HAwaiian pilots solely on your ignorance. By the way I will continue to volunteer for ALPA when time permits-being that our second child was just born and I am still picking up trips to go down to 8 days off as my wife is not back to work and will be going back to school at the end of summer. So, how does Valujet determine your seniority if not by your longevity? How was your list put together if not by longevity. Every other union in this world assigns seniority by your DOH. Just the PFT generation sees it different.

well after re reading my original post it was kind of harsh. But in my defense, I am still pretty bitter about what happened. No amount of icing can make my situation any better. So eventually I will leave Mesaba and it will be most likely to another ALPA carrier. I will support that local union as I do mine now but I will learn from my past and always keep an eye out for another screwing and try and stop it.

yeah my longevity, my DOH was not respected. The fight for a fair SLI was over before it started since the arbitrator basically did what he did every other time he awarded a decision. Great way to be fair. I was thinking before this started that if I was +/- 2-3% I would be okay and it would be fair. What I was not expecting was a seniority grab by many including the most senior at my company. I am sorry but in a merger or equals (all ALPA) some pilots should not lose 7-10 % and others should not gain what others lost. I am just saying...... Its over-nothing I can do about it-I do not take my bitterness into the flight deck-I do not hold Pinnacle pilots or Colgan pilots responsible-I just know that there has to be better places to be to spend my future. The one thing I do not want to hear is pilots gloating over how they have gained in this deal......which I have heard from a few of my friends..who quickly apologized

USAPA's seniority proposal puts a guy that was hired two months before me ahead of me on that list. However, I have almost twice the LOS as this guy. Explain to me how that fits in with your longevity argument?

I have 6 years of service and was hired 12 years ago and believe it or not I would be happy to have been slotted in with west 6 year guys but because I was used as a pawn and management threw me and my family under the bus I "brought nothing to the table" and was stapled below the new hires. I'm running out of periods on my key board so I have to use run-on sentences...sorry. Wait a tick this thread is a TWA Lawsuit thread...sorry for the hijack...I'll shut-up.

You came across as bitterly anti-ALPA and Hawaiian is an ALPA carrier. Happily so in my opinion and I don't see that changing anytime soon. I was not judging your character, I was suggesting that if you are as anti-ALPA as your post suggested, you might want to reconsider as you would be joining a pro-ALPA pilot group if hired. Your subsequent post clarified your ALPA attitude somewhat but the statement "I hope someone slams ALPA" is what gets me.

For the most part, what everyone blames ALPA National for is the actions of their own MECs under the leadership of pilots they themselves have elected. If ALPA National is "slammed" by this lawsuit, it will not only hurt ALPA National, but ALPA units and ALPA pilots everywhere. It will weaken the structure and might even result in an assessment of all the pilots.

I have disagreed with Hawaiian's MEC internally when I do not think they have made the right choice/decisions but externally I support them 100%. I have no doubt they are acting in the manner they think is best for the entire pilot group. I do know that without Hawaiian's ALPA unit and ALPA National's support, I would not be enjoying the compensation, work rules and quality of life that our contract affords. That Hawaiian is such a good place to work is thanks to ALPA. So no, I do not want anti-ALPA pilots to join our pilot group. I don't want our unity and strength weakened by naysayers.

I am not naive, I understand that ALPA is not perfect and makes mistakes/has weaknesses. But the good they do far out shines the bad. The mistakes and weaknesses can be fixed without "slamming" the organization and losing sight of the big picture.

I think a common belief is that yes, your MEC is responsible, but the handsome pay/benefits/huge retirement that our dues money is paying you would think that we could hope for a little supervision by these very rich ALPA officers. Millionaires at national? No one at national is a millionaire. Not even close. They make little more than a senior line holder at their respective airlines.

As far as your question, you weren't exactly in a position to demand anything like that at Airways. The airline was in dire shape, and a judge would have imposed something far more onerous than even the horrible conditions that you ended up with in negotiations, most likely. The company wasn't going to accept a snapback clause, and the judge wouldn't either. There was nothing that anyone at national could do about that.

If national is truly not in the loop at all on contracts, LOA's, grievences etc... then why be ALPA? For the magazine? No one here will answer my question.

I'll answer your question. National is always in the loop and providing advice, but sometimes advice isn't followed, and sometimes you may not like the advice, even though it is sound. For example, I'm sure you weren't happy with your MEC terminating your pension, but all of the advisors to your MEC knew that it was the only viable option, so they took a difficult vote and did the right thing. Other times, MECs get advice from their advisors and ignore it. That usually doesn't turn out too well, but pilots always think that they know best. In the end, national doesn't make decisions for you, they just provide advice to your local leaders. The local guys make all of the final decisions.

They make more. A lot more. The lowest paid secretary makes more than quite a few ALPA carrier copilots. ALPA's history is chock full of sellouts and dirty deals because ALPA is in business for ALPA and that's the long and short of it.
