I once read that Dallas Love field is the airport with the lowest fares in the country. SWA does not really have any competition there, so you would think that the fares would be high. SWA sells 65% of their seats at a discount, and the last min walk up fare from anywhere to any where is $299, which once was $399. What you pointed out though is what legacy carriers have done in the past. Drop the price, and hope you can have enough cash to out last your competition or put them out of business and then raise your fares. What has happened is that legacy carriers have run out of cash and can not out last the new competition, and are thus forced to lower fares and cut costs.chperplt said:FastCargo
Unless you're one of the lucky few that get the discounted seats, you're going to pay a nice chunk of change.
SW is going into PHL the same way they, or any airline goes into any new city. They are going to start with low fares to get the customer base, and in this case, when Airways goes bye-bye, those fares are going to jump up to where they should be.
Look at BWI. US air was at BWI and I challenge you to find walk up fares anywhere close to what u was charging when they were at bwi. If what you say is true BWI fare shoud be through the roof now that SWA is the dominent carrier.
