If shutting down an engine due to a failure, push the throttle forward a little to see if anything changes. If you feel a yaw, make sure you have the correct throttle. Just one more technique.
Sometimes in training we get so hung up on shutting down a failed engine, what the hell for? I agree. Do nothing for the first 1,000 feet. If it is on fire, memory items only. If its not burning leave it the freak alone.
