Lost an engine, got below Vmca and over it went. It will be interesting to know what it's T/O weight was and if they had accurate numbers.

ATR ATPCS automatically feathers the prop (and supplies Uptrim) upon engine failure with Take-off selected. ATR 72-600 props windmill rather quickly at feather.

Why not wait for the DFDR readout rather than speculate????

According to the ABC evening news, when one engine failed about 5 seconds after takeoff, the crew shut down the wrong engine 33 seconds later.

When the crew discovered the mistake, it was too late.

I hope that is not the case and who knows where they got the information.

If anyone out there has ever had a low altitude engine failure, the last thing on your mind is securing a dead engine.

Damn shame.

FYI. At least it's from an aviation media outlet rather than CNN:

http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/transasia-ge235-shutting-down-the-wrong-engine-408790/

"Taiwan's accident investigators have taken the unusual step of publishing part of the flight data recorder printout for the crashed ATR 72-600 almost as soon as it was available to them."

I was a bit surprised at the speed with which they released the FDR info. But that's just some of the "what" without reference to the "why". "Why" will take a long time...
