Tradewinds is a great company to work for! The clients, unlike the above mentioned, are easy to work with and understand the effort each pilot is putting into each and every flight that leaves the ramp. As I can see, you have already looked beyond what outsiders think of the company. This is coming from someone inside the company and I love what I do, the people I work with and the equipment I fly.

PTK has more FBO's than it knows what to do with! I think the current count is six. Poke your head into the Taubman Air center (tiny hangar). A LOT of money flys in and out of there. Check out PentaStar. Bill Ford has made that a first class operation. Get noticed and make your face a familiar one. Loads of work out of PTK. There are a few leads out of DTW as well.

Tradewinds has improved working conditions and pay by about 100% over the last couple of years. The president that is referred to is barely involved in the day to day operations any more. We do have some difficult clients, but that is true in any corporate department. Average flight time is around 500 hours a year, with about 80 overnights. We can shut off our phones at 6:00 at night, and if you haven't been called by 6:00 on Friday, you're off until Tuesday. And since GM stopped matching its 401K and cut out pensions for white collar workers, we now have a better retirement than them.

I have to agree with the other tradewinds pilots who posted here, although we all wrestle with "greener grass" issues in this industry, I really enjoy working there. You don't work that hard at all and the people are a real pleasure to fly with. Good trips, decent and, more important, well-maintained equipment make for an enjoyable job.

As for clients, I can only think of a couple that make me groan when I get a trip assignment, but I've seen plenty of other pax acting like asses in FBOs to know that there are idiots being flown by everyone...it kind of goes with the territory.

The stepping stone comment probably used to apply. Through a lot of effort on the company's part pilot retention is now a real priority and it shows. I know my own opinion has changed over time and I now consider my job a long term option, if not a career one.

Sounds like really nice place to work. I have my interview on Monday and I am excited to go. I hope it turns out well. Not sure what to expect during the Tech portion of the interview though.

Don't be concerned, just be yourself. Be honest in your expectations and if you're a good fit both you and the interviewer will know it. The people that you'll be speaking with are very straight-forward and won't bs you.

My interview on Monday went very well. I left feeling excellent about the experience and the operation. I was given a tour of the company/facility and all aircraft (except the 800xp, bc none were there) by Mr. Angle. I was very impressed with the people, the equipment and the environment. I was told that I should hear something by the end of the week. I am now just waiting and hoping for a positive call.
