Just finished up flying the UPS peak sort this past 2 weeks (exhausting) and noticed that Tradewinds had a 747 parked in SDF for days, and was told by a maintenance rep that the plane had 2 bad engines, and got into SLC tonight and saw another Tradewinds 747 there, maintenance there told me that plane is grounded for some hydraulic failure, whoever is in charge of your maintenance will probably be out of work this week! I'm sure the folks at UPS were not pleased with the lack of lift due to those two broken planes:rolleyes:

You got that right.......

I wanted nothing to do with the UPS Haj as I had a feeling this was going to happen.

The 747 in SDF is an ex UPS bird that needs a change of the # 1 engine due to several compressor stalls.

News to me that we have one down on SLC....?

What about the Atlas whale that broke flying the MSP-RFD peak charter? Bet that didn't make UPS happy either. UPS had to send the hot RFD DC-8 to do a double turn to pick up all the stranded volume.

I think you should stay OUT of this thread

At least our plane was not stranded for days, we have spare aircraft.

Hey B747FR8DAWG, your tagline under your screen name is incomplete. It says "Giant 747" but you left out the "minature paycheck"!!!

Yup, the SLC hyrdo thing is true...I was on it.
My understanding is the hyrdo sequencer valve blew on the #4 engine. Maint told me that was a hard part to get a hold of but we had one in about 7 hrs and we were gone in 12 hrs. Pretty quick fix or at least I think so
It was a very bad week for the 747 program

TheDude,

Glad to see you guys got it up and running again, what's the status with MIA operations? Still going down to VCP, SCL, UIO, or BOG?

Hey OUT,

Your tagline says "Registered User" but you left out "of KY JellY"

I'm not sure which paycheck you're talking about, but I see what they pay at Tradewinds, and I make more!

Let's not go down this road, I'm trying to be professional here, I have several friends working at Tradewinds and wish them all the best with their careers there. So I'm going to end with Happy New Year to you and all the crews at Tradewinds!

Check out "OUT". He is a pretender. Do a search on his posts. Somedays he's a CFI, somedays he can't wait to fly a RJ, other days he's a UPS pilot. Another confused little boy I'd say. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Direct pay comparisons can be deceptive, expecially at cargo companies.

Atlas pay is great by ACMI standards and they have a 5% matching 401k. I think upgrades are running about 7 years before someone can hold Capt at STN. New hires may spend some considerable time in STN before escaping to a more rational US basing. Maybe a current Atlas guy can correct that, if it's wrong.

Tradewinds pay is lower, but Captain upgrade potential is much faster, depending on how fast aircraft are added. Basing is in LA or MIA, making commuting much easier than trying to go to STN or ANC, if you're not living in Alaska already. Also, intl per diem at Tradewinds is much higher than Atlas.

That's not accounting for the other intangibles like company maturity, union contract, quality of equipment, work rules, days off, etc. etc.

When making comparisons one has to consider the entire package.

Draginass,

You are right, and the majority of us are based in the USA and are able to enjoy a decent quality of life and pay. We hope to do something with the STN base in the upcoming contract negotiations. I am based in MIA and live in South Florida and usually work 12 days a month, so life is pretty good for me and a good majority of us.

B747FR8DAWG,

I am currenlty based out of LAX and doing the coast to coast commute. I did IOE out of MIA down to SCL, BOG, POS and Medillian (sp?). Great places to do OE, right? At night in the mtns...great fun. 4th a/c is online and biz shoud start picking up as soon as the other a/c comes out of heavy check.
Cant complain to bad...they might as well ask you in the interview..do you like to sit around a drink beer?...then this is the place for you.

Poor Poor OUT. Christmas Eve and all he has to do is sit in front of the computer and belittle people, their companies and payscales. Perhaps the Ghost of Christmas past, present or future will bring him to his senses......
