Had we grown and prospered, there would have been no furloughing, and everyone would have been content with their career expectations. Obviously that didn't happen due to 9/11, and the result is that you guys blame the unions for the consequences. But had there been good times after the merger, you guys would have been quite happy with the outcome. You would have probably stayed a CA. Am I right?

Interesting, according to this theory if good events (external to the situation) had happened which helped to negate the evil and malicious deeds of the aa horde then we would all be holding hands and singing around the campfire.

Similairly by this logic- If on 9/11 a freak gust of wind had blown the hijackers off course at the last second and they had happened to miss the WTC we would all be happy and smiley and would probably think they were swell fellows.

hmmm.... or maybe we would remember the throats they had slit along the way and work towards holding them accountable for their actions.

Was TWA in bad shape financially? Yes.
Would they have gone out of business? Probably.
Did you guys get screwed royally? IMHO, yes.

I've been furloughed for almost five years - I'm actually below TWA. Unless you have had the experience of going broke, being turned down for unemployment, moving in with your in-laws, going deeply in debt, etc. you can't "feel the pain" of the TWA guys. However much you imagine it sucks, it is much worse.

Nice post. I want to let this issue rest, but it won't until after the trial next year. At 53 at the time of furlough, and my seniority in the 11,500 range, I'll never see the left seat at AA again unless the court orders a fair reschuffle of the seniority deck. My wife and I will not be able to retire, we will have to work until we die. I lost $3.5M in wages, benefits and retirement. Yeah, I'm angry. All the TWA guys are angry. But let's be cordial acquaintences. Yes?

Let it go, and let him rant all he wants. It really doesn't bug me. Every airline has their 2%, including ours. As much as he likes to insult us, I also understand that emotions run deep when one is furloughed, and even though he is misdirecting his anger at us - the rank-and-file pilots - instead of Ed White, ALPA, Carty, APA and 9/11, I realize that he and his family took the brunt of it with the furlough. And that goes for every pilot, AA or TWA, that was furloughed after 9/11.

Ironspud - I stand by what I said. I have tremendous respect and admiration for the TWA pilot group, regardless of what you may think of me. I also hope things work out for you and your family in the long run.

Why don't we talk about how close USAirways was from closing its doors (2 weeks) and figure out why their pilots are trying to screw the acquiring carrier's pilots.

Take it one step further: at the very beginning of the TWA/AA and UA/AAA proceedings approximately 500 USAir pilots were going to go to American along with F100's and some 757s.

ALPA and APA were talking about integrating those pilots.

This is a case where fences and cells would work very well. USAirways was in Chap 11 prior to the acquisition, TWA was not. It wasn't until after the deal was announced that AMR pushed TWA into Chap 11 to get ride of Carl's Karabu ticket arrangement and then used it to screw the pilots by blackmailing us into signing away scope.
