Curious how a Pharmacist's average pay is $91,998. Does Walgreens really pay a pill counter that much? Talking about an easy job.

Maybe some of these PFT schools should move in on the Pharmacy market....

There was an article in USA Today earlier this year about how there is a shortage of Pharmacist's. They said that students had numerous offers before they were even done with school.

On the Pharmacist issue, they neglect to tell you in school that you will be a pill passer AND retail store manager. A friend is doing that schtick. Not fun.TC

The sales staff of the flight school I went to, never told me I'd be holding onto someone's accidentally deployed reserve pilot chute with one hand, flying a plane with the other and forcefully pinning a skydiver to the floor with my elbow while waiting for somebody to help get the 182 door closed.

It's amazing what those bastages don't tell you before you go to school.

My cousin is a pharmasist. If he is an indicator, then you must be a major anal retentive pedantic nerd to survive in that career.

He had these ceramic fish he purchased in the Caymans. Four to be exact, with dorsals dimishing in height. It was just a happy little family of nemo's swimming on his credenza.

I picked one up to admire the craftsmanship and replaced it within a millimeter of its original home.

He was hovering along behind me of course, and sure enough had to microscopically scootch it over a tad.

I think he likes his white smock with name tag too.

Hi!

My wife is a stockbroker, which I think is at #3. She really likes it.

Basically, anyone can get hired as a stockbroker, as there are no tests or any way to tell who will do well. They hire U off the street, U study for 6 months, pass your Series 7, and start building clientele. The failure rate is about 85%.

So, you either fail, or you make a decent wage. If you're good U can make a lot. It's like pro sports. Once you're established, everybody wants you, and U can walk in anywhere and get a decent signing bonus.

My wife and 2 other guys from her office just switched firms. One guy, "Bob", was the #1 producer at the old firm. I believe Bob's signing bonus at the new office was about $300K.

I would avoid Merrill Lynch.

The average pharmacist out of college gets $83K to start. It is a total pain in the a$$ degree. They had it my college-I thought about it for about .001 seconds and said "No Way!"

I talked to a pharmacist at Shopko (like WalMart). He said with Walgreen's expansion plans, if they hired EVERY pharmacy student in the US, they wouldn't have enough to fill their own stores, much less all the stores of their competitors.

With our aging population, and our love of drugs here in the US, pharmacists will never lack for multiple job offers.

A recurring theme, so-called average pay in different occupations and reaction thereto by pilots and others. I think until you have an advanced degree in another field and have worked in that other field, you are wading deep in speculation. As someone who has an advanced degree and licensure in a discipline other than aviation, and as someone who is also now re-involved in professional aviation, I can separate a good deal of the fact from the fiction. If you don't want to fly and think you would prefer to have a dregree and licensure in another discipline, then stop talking about it and go do it. You could well then discover that you'd rather fly after all, or do both, if possible. But do what you want to do and make it your own. I rather enjoy having the degrees and the dual licensure. (From what was posted, it does appear that the survey might not have adopted an accurately broad enough definition of "commercial pilot". But that doesn't change the essence of my remarks.)

Hang on here gang... the thing to remember about the pharmacists is that they are compensated well because, in their profession, they have the ability to do a lot of damage and even KILL people if they do something wrong. Therefore, one must take this into consideration when comparing salaries... oh, wait a minute... ummmm.... oh nevermind!!

As far as working in the cubicle world, "MMMM, yeaaah... Peter! What's happenin'? Listen, I'm gonna need ya to come in on Saturday. MMM Yeah. Oh, and did you get that memo about the new cover sheets for the TPS reports? MMMkay? Thaaaaaanks."

And that big contingency fee case that might or might not be a winner? It's gonna take up five years of your life and, oh yeah, the costs are $100k. And, of course, the client wants you to advance the costs. Oh, it's five years later, and you "won", but, guess what, now you're in an appeal--no fees yet (they bonded the appeal, let's say)--and maybe the court of appeal reverses and remands for another trial. Another three years for all that? Up to eight years, and counting? And no fees yet. And more costs. Did somebody say SALARY? What's a SALARY? (The foregoing is a hypothetical description of what could and does sometimes happen in contingency fee legal work. In actuality, initial case screening, later case re-evaluation, client counsel and control, and knowing how to negotiate, when to settle, and for how much, could help to avoid or to mitigate such a scenario. But variations of this scenario can and do occur and the real point is that "the grass is not always greener".) Or, maybe you're defense and the carrier decides to take its business elsewhere. Look, go out there and do it! Wanna be a pharmacist? Wanna be a doctor? Wanna be a lawyer? DO IT! The real thing isn't just a compilation of survey results.
If you're so miserable flying, then go do something else. And report back to us in 10-20 years. Just my opinion.

Lawfly Well said, We have a few midilife career changers working for us. After 5-15 years in some other career filed they decided to become a professional pilot. They may seem happier because they have done something else and can compare their flying job to another job where they have worked.

My job, Auto mechanic, didn't even make the list. Bummer. No aircraft technicians either... things that make you go hmmmmmm...
