If all the people with APU's use GPU's then there will not be one available when you need it. Many FBO's only have a few.

I am a little late to this party, but we took delivery of a new 2000EX in 04. We have about 1800 hours on the airplane with almost 1000 on the APU. I wonder how I survived without it!

Like D said, the APU is there to make the boss comformtable and allow us to pre-flight (read IRS aligment) the airplane and have it ready for engine start the momement the door closes. Period.

All other discussion is pointless ...
