In their defense, most major airline pilots were at "true" commuters, flying Beech 1900s, EMB 110s and 120s, Metroliners.

Not DC-9 sized RJs.
 
The place where most mainline pilots started, then bash later denying they were ever there.

I never took offence to the term commuters when I was flying the Dash8. It is what we call (I guess "called" so now we don't hurt your feelings) the airlines that fed the major carriers. Grow up.
