Last night, at a hockey game between the Montreal Canadians and the New York Islanders played in Canada, the fans proceeded to boo the USA national anthem to show their distate towards the war. There was, however, an applause afterwards by the "good half" of the crowd.

As a Canadian, I cannot find the words to say about how ashamed I am. This act was tremendously disrespectful, and I ask you guys not to judge us Canadians as a whole based on this.

If you do decide to judge me and others, please note that Islander fans booed the Canadian anthem after the "friendly fire" incident in Afghanistan. This is no justification, however, to retaliate, and booing an anthem is just uncalled for.

While I am no supporter of the war, I have grown an appreciation for the actions by the US and others. I do support a regime change (Saddam is a nut and letting him stay in power will lead to more misery for Iraq and others), and I am glad to see that some action is finally being taken.

To add to the booing, it also sickens me to see the burning of the American and other flags at anti-war protests. To those people I challenge you to leave your country if you are that much displeased with what it's doing. If you want to protest, do it peacefully, because if you don't, you just look like a bunch of ignorant morons.

I know there seems to be a lot of resentment lately towards Canadians at the moment because our government has decided not to participate. It, however, continues to supply troops (currently in the gulf) for the "war on terrorism."

Many Canadians are "with you" and I just want to let everyone know that the vast majority of us truly appreciate having a neighbour like you. The smart Canadians realize that we are nothing as a nation without you... we are very much dependent on you guys economically (some 80% of US trade is with Canada) and millitarily as well. I hope you guys don't look at these isolated incidents and judge us as a whole.

I just hope that after this war everything will return to normal.

Looks like us Canucks got some idiots claiming to be citizens, too. Same as us Yankees.

Anyone wishing to burn the U.S. flag must wrap themselves in it first.

Fly SAFE!

Thank you

On the subject of US citizens burning the flag; that is something that makes the US great. I personally take great umbrage at such an act of desecration by those who take their freedom for granted, forgetting or ignorant that the red color symbolizes the blood of the patriots who died defending that freedom.

Those misguided individuals who would engage in such a display unwittingly honor the flag and the patriots by their exercise of their hard fought and hard won right to do so; albeit fought for and won by Americans of a greater status.

God Bless America

I read about that incident at the hockey game, and it saddened me, but I think most Americans realize that there are people in the world who will hate us no matter what we do.

It's no different in this country with the protesters. The anti-war protesters in this country as a whole really don't have a grasp of the events they are protesting. Several days ago, I saw an anti-war protest on TV where one of the protesters had an American flag that had a swastika in place of the field of stars. Besides being acutely offensive, that doesn't make any sense at all. The protester doesn't have the slightest idea of why their argument doesn't hold water.
There have also been protesters from the National Organization for Women protesting against President Bush. Women's rights advocates! Protesting in defence of a tyrant who has made the rape, torture, and murder of women and children a key part of his regime.

The Iraqi people have cursed us and burned our flag in the past simply because it was what their leaders told them to do. Like our demonstrators, they really don't understand the issues. I think once Saddam is gone, maybe they, along with the rest of the world, will realize that the US has made a huge sacrifice for their freedom and safety and the safety of the world, and maybe they'll show a little gratitude. Just as long as they don't take lessons on gratitude from the French!

Let's not forget that one of the founding principals of America is to be able to disagree with it's policies and actions without reprisal.

It's a tough pill to swallow, but to embrace a truely free country, you must also embrace that ALL people have a right to thier view, opinions and beliefs, however unpopular at the time.

If we don't, we become what we fight against.

Protesters

Of course, although we're pilots the war and politics are good cockpit discussion fodder, so it's okay that we discuss them here!

Both points raised herein are good, and disgusting for one and the same reason. The anti-war protesters have no idea whatsoever what they're protesting, and their symbolism is sickening. They very conveniently forget, or ignore, or whatever, that Mr. Hussein has wreaked violence on his own country's inhabitants. He has used his weapons of mass destruction, e.g. gas, on his own people. Just as Hitler did. Therefore, how dare these protesters put a swatstika on the American flag.

As A Canadian and a permanent resident of the USA I too, am very deeply hurt by the actions of the fans in Montreal and the recent decision of our Prime Minister not to support the US. Remember though that this was an act by French Canada and does not reflect the thoughts and feelings of True Canadians. For punishment I think that pulling the Montreal Canadians out of the NHL would mabe teach those A-Holes to keep there mouths shut. I am returning to work (this week)with my former employer and after initial, will be active once again flying support for the US (MAC)and I will be proud to serve as a civilian in this conflict. May God Bless all the brave Americans over there now and bring them home safe including Our Canadian Armed Forces still in the middle east.

I'm the son of an BC native, RCMP and RCAF man. I no longer follow hockey since the days of the Flyers of the early seventies, so this is news to me.

This is appalling behavior, all things considered. Makes me glad my dad waited until he hit Philadelphia to have kids.

What the heck were those frogs thinking, eh?

I agree too 46 but they still piss off the Real Canadians like ME!;)

I wish Quebec would have seceeded years ago, when there was a lot of talk about it. Unfortunately, I think they were unwilling to take along their part of the Canadian debt. Too bad.
