I will second,Port of Call-Great fun!!!!!!

The Dead Goat Saloon downtown, halfway between the church and the Hilton; you have to have a sponsor to get in, but buying someone a beer goes a long way.....Red Rocks, microbrews, good pizza, great roasted chicken......DV8, punkish dance club near the Dead Goat, house and techno music, the 'alternative' crowd.......

The geneology library is open to the public and contains literally millions of entries, from town halls and census bureaus to birth, death and marriage records, and is certainly NOT limited to Mormons only. I found my grandparents from New Hampshire listed there.

You might be a mormon but don't know it yet

I hear the mormon church has an extensive database of geneaology records. you could look up your ancestory for free.

The reasons why the Mormon Church has a huge genealogy base is:

They look up their ancencstors and convert them.

So some day in the future one of your offspring may answer the door to find two nice looking young men in with white shirts and ties, before you know it you too will be a Mormon.

Slc:

1. Golfing is great here, go to www.uga.org for more info. Wingpointe is fairly good, just bring some extra balls, this course eats them quite easily.

2. I highly recommend the Bayou on State Street. I food is great and they have over 200 beers on tap.

3. The Depot has live music and is located next to the Gateway mall. The best place to see live music in SLC hands down. At least in doors.

4. Red Butte Gardens hosts a summer concert series that has many great national acts that perform there. You can bring in your own beer, wine, liquor, etc. I recomend bringing a lawn chair and a cooler to keep the beverages cold.

5. City Creek Canyon is just north of downtown and is an easy walk from most hotels. This is a great place to hike, bike, jog, or whatever. Truly a great place to excercise close to downtown.

6. If you like quality italian food, I would suggest Cannellas for lunch, and Cucinna Toscanna for dinner. Toscanna can be a bit expensive, but the food is great.

7. Market Street Grill is downtown and has the best selection of seafood in town. All fish is flown in daily and is excellent. The Market Street Oyster Bar is located next door and has the about the same menu, but it is a private club, which in Utah is code for a bar.

8. If you have the time, Park City has some of the best mountain biking in the country and is only 40 minutes from downtown. Both Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley rent mountain bikes right on the mountain.

9. If steak is your thing Spencer's downtown is always well liked. This place can be kind of spendy, however the scotch selection here is very good.

10. If all else fails, Vegas is only a 45 min. flight away. Have fun!

Back when I was a teenager (a really long time ago) my parents were out when the two Mormon guys showed-up at the door. My parents always pretended that nobody was home, and they would go away. Just to be defient I let them come in and give their presentation.

I remember something about some golden seals......anyway, it sounded kinda crazy to me at the time. They left and those were the last Mormons I ever spoke to for around 25 years. If only they had showed me pictures of those hot Mormon women instead of Jesus I might have converted on the spot.

The part about converting ancestors is a little off. Not to turn this into a doctrinal thread, but you would be suprised how many mormon's are hanging out in pilot lounges around the country. We are just not as verbal about ourselves as those who like to bash the religion.

Wow, thanks a ton for all the replies-especially steak...here's to a medical failing filet! And the golf and bars, we'll try some of these and I'll give you the verdicts.

Good point. Check out "Inside Mormonism" by Isaiah Bennett.

And if that book isn't enough for you, check out this wonderful website below that documents the true basis and false doctrine of the Mormon church.

And I'm not going to dog on your religion, but seriously guys, you need to do yourself a small favor and atleast open your minds up and read whats below - and start to ask questions! You have to think for yourselves, and not take everything at face value. Look at both sides, and see what makes sense to you in the end.

I lived in an area predominated by Mormons for 8 years, so I know a bit about the religion. I had some one explain to me what was being done with the conversions once. I remember something about trying to get your ancestors throught the seven levels of heaven or purgatory, I can't remember the exact details.

I agree that my comment about converting ancestors may be a little off, but any semblance of converting ancestors is a "lot off". I would appreciate an explanation or link to what is actually occuring with the geneology information.

I don't live in Utah and most likely never will, in fact the population there is not predominantly LDS, funny huh?

This link explains it better than I could, I didn't mean to sound snippy, but the dialoge was getting a bit out of hand with others. It's not really "converting".
