In short terms, if you believe in a shortage, you're' a go##damn moron.

You are not dealing with what we see as a bottom feeder, we cannot even used the fogged mirror interview method anymore.

Ignored the regional pilots?? Does that include the period when the regionals had explosive growth while all the majors were furloughing? A job is a job and nobody was complaining then about the pay or opportunities. In fact, those scum top guys at Comair even tried to use it as leverage to get bigger planes from mainline.

The reason it's a focus point now is that the majors are scooping up pilots left and right for the increased pay and benefits. Nobody should have EVER been under the impression a regional job is a career.

The regional growth was due to mainline managements shifting flying to the regionals, while keeping the compensation bar low. And ALPA did nothing to try to raise it. Meanwhile Babbitt, wuerth, prater etc were not advocating for higher wages.

I agree with all mainline pilots that all flying should be done at mainline. The issue here is ALPA did nothing to solve either problem; the shift of jobs, and pay for all pilots, but rather propagated the situation with its lack of leadership.

Now they're trying give the appearance of advocacy, when in reality it's too late for them too save face, but rather rewrite history.

Hopefully the regional industry does fade and all flying moves to mainline and us with it. But ALPA has been no advocate for qol for its members.

Add APA to the mix.

And that right there is the problem in a nutshell.

That will be the tough realization.
Ideological management who believe in in encumbered free markets have always believed that they paid higher than market wages bc they were dealing with unions.

Our compensation and work rules are indeed hampered by seniority that gives significant lag- but when pilots do not enter the industry to begin with???

We've been making well below a market wage since the post 9/11 bankruptcies.

Sorry yip-
The poster above has it perfectly- there are plenty of qualified pilots in the country. There are not plenty of pilots willing to work at current wages- or even enter the profession under the current deal.

No reason to be sorry because the market wages have caused a shortage. I like what I saw above there is a pay shortage.
