Wow!!! What was he thinking? Can you actually take off in a curve like that? I've read some pilots will start their TO with a sort or U-turn to pick up speed prior to beginning the actual TO run, but this guy was going fast.

Hopefully they were able to restore that Goose. :(
 
Amen to what MAR said.

I doubt they'd be able to get that thing out of the river valley. It would be big bucks to use a heavy lift helo to extracate it.

A shame.

If you listen closely, you'll notice that he was engaging the starter when he hit the beach.

Gotta love those "professional" sound guys ;)

As to what he was thinking, I'd bet somebody thought it would be REALLY COOL to get an up-close video of a takeoff...

Okay I'm confused. Why would he be messing with the starter when he hit the beach?
