"Obviously the capts in SJU and LGA are listed because their base is closing,......"

And just how much has all of this base opening/closing scheme cost the company? Wasn't the original reason for opening LGA to cut down on expensive NYC hotel costs while running an out/back day trip operation as cheaply as possible? Did hotel costs suddenly go way down, or has yet another brilliant business model been newly developed? While we're on the subject, just how much has the opening/closing of ACY, MYR, MLB, CLE etc. etc. etc. cost over the years? Further, just how much has the opening/closing of stations like SFO, OAK etc. etc. etc. cost???? What geniuses inhabit Miramar.

I agree, I was just saying that the 242 number includes displacements and downgrades, not just straight up furloughs.

You had to know the handwriting was on the wall when Spirit started charging for friggn water and pretzels...they can go out of biz anytime and it would do us all alot more good than harm....

You sir have to do more research because you truly have no idea what you are talking about.

Well, the last time I sent my 16yo daughter to Michigan, she asked the FA for some water and was told she needed a credit card to get a water, so, I think I do know what I am talking about.

Maybe the answer lies in the fact that one of NK's former senior executives is an alumni of easyJet, bringing his vast knowledge of European LCC's to NK. What's the easyJet business model you ask? Have a look for yourself, and your experience with charge for water, charge for the clear blue sky, will be illuminated. One can hardly pretend that this is an idea which has it's originating roots in Miramar.

Well, according to the latest MEC update, nobody knows what are the reasons for this announcement.

Communication, communication.........

You're getting what you're paying for buddy. Your fault if you didn't do your homework.

Maybe, my point is you can sell cheap tickets that don't cover your costs and try and make it up selling ancillary items like water and chips, but I guess we can see how that's working out for Spirit.....just another dirtbag airline to go in the history books of aviation.....

The contract says they have to give us 14 day notice before we are furloughed. So I guess I still have a job for 2 weeks. And I don't think the 14 day clock until we get our official notice in the mail.
Probably not going to get a notice in the mail. The company and the union will agree that today's notice will be sufficient.

Oh yes...and whoever you work for is the poster child for a role model...right?

I got an idea Sgt....go to your management and see if they can change the paint scheme again, bet that will sell more tickets! Or, maybe they could put a credit card swiper by the door to the shi**er, maybe that would bring ya into the black....what a joke. Dude, face it, your management sucks, and no matter how you look at it, people hate being nickled and dimed. There's not an investment company in the world that would throw more cash at a fledgling airline, so a word to the wise.....start figuring out what you are going to do in life after Spirit...

So you're pissed because your brat couldn't buy a drink on Spirit. So, now you're hoping that we go down the tubes. Nice! Watch out for that Karma dude. Whatever company you're at, I bet it won't be you're last.

greenbay you seem to have some issues. first you are doggin frontier and now spirit. two airlines that probably shot you down in the interview because you are a disgrace to humanity, get a clue dirtbag. these are airlines with good employees who have families to feed. you should be ashamed of yourself.

Greenbayballs...let me tell you something. It trully is a disgrace knowing that butt-pimples like you exist in this industry. Your fellow pilots are facing layoffs and hardships with families to feed and all you do is come here and spit your worthless venom.
Shame on you and let karma bite you...cause it will.WATCH.

First of all GBF,

How could you send your daughter anywhere without putting a $20 bill in her pocket.

Secondly, to support GBF....

Any airline that charges for water is a Sh&t operation. I can see charging for everything else....but water?....c'mon. Water is a basic survival need. Why don't you charge for using the bathroom....another basic survival need. When dehydration is the issue....give 'em the water for free!

I really can't believe that even if you have cash you cannot get a cup of water......Just give out the water for free.....I know, it's not the pilots.

This is an obvious emulation of the RyanAir and easyJet business models which have proven to have worked OK in Europe. Ever notice that after MH joined NK from easyJet that Ben was quick to title NK a ULCC?
If you don't like the model, let the senior NK "executives" know. Heck, Ben is an absolute wizzard at e-mail, I'm sure he will get right back to you!
This is not the fault of the rank and file front line employees.

Guess you should have sent her on NW. Oh wait, our tickets were cheaper. You are just one of many...

This is exactly the attitude that will put the nails in the coffin. If you keep treating people like crap they will stop buying tickets.

And to prove that the saving money is an invalid point see below...$29.00 it is not worth the hassle of being treated like second class citizen. If I had the choice I would buy the ticket on NWA.

First, I never dogged Frontier at all, so I don't know where you got that from! And why does everyone on this message board assume because someone dogs an airline, that they have been "shot down" by 'em? To set the record straight I have not even applied to either of these airlines, and I never said anything disparraging about Frontier.

Secondly, I wasn't criticizing the employees of Spirit, just their management and business model. I'm sure there are great people working there. My original post simply stated that these employees should have seen the writing on the wall as oil prices rose and other similar airlines started folding. Then, Spirit Management thinks they can solve their revenue problems by selling water and snacks and changing paint schemes, like passengers give a rats as* how the plane is painted. As a passenger, you really start to question the customer service when you have to whip out your VISA for a bag of friggn' doritos. This is the kinda shi* that gives the media tons of ammunition for what a joke this industry is.

My point is, if you work for an airline that has questionable management making asinine decisions, don't be shocked when you get your pink slip....

The traveling public is the one to blame. Everyone always wants the cheapest ticket. Before SWA, people were getting chicken, steak, lobster on planes. Some airlines stopped serving this stuff, ticket price went down. Next thing all you get is peanuts and a cup, not a can, a cup of soda. Everyone is ok with that, why TICKET is CHEAPER. Eat in the terminal. Now our tickets are even cheaper but you have to bring on your own drink, nobody says you can't. Ya'll really think websites like priceline etc.. have helped the situation? We can all blame ourselves. We have driven the airlines to this type of service. Wait till hotels etc.... start stuff like this, don't want the comp. breakfast, your room is 5 bucks cheaper. Don't think for one minute the price of the room doesn't take in consideration the price of what it would cost to feed the guest. Never said I like it, for us at NK, yeah it sucks to be going through this. Lots of lives being affected. Lets not forget either, lots of folks can't spend 700.00+ for a ticket to FLL from BOS. But they can afford to fly on us. God Speed to all of us. Its going to get much worse, not just this industry. Wait till were fighting each other for food in eight monthes. Good luck to all.

In the end the consumer will determine what tickets prices will be, higher prices = fewer travelers, it is exactly what we are seeing right now.
