I just wanted to relate a great experience I had jumpseating on Delta Airlines. I was traveling from LGA to ATL, and was thoroughly welcomed by everyone. I was processed with CASS and sat in the jumpseat of one of their 737-800s.
During push back from the gate, Ops called the tug operator and advised that
the jumpseater (me) had left his passport at the gate. I was actually mortified that I would cause any sort of delay or inconvenience. The Captain and First Officer were amused by this and told them to send it out. Within a minute (literally), a truck came rolling up and when the F/O opened his cockpit window, a black glove came sailing through the opening. Inside was my passport. We tossed out the glove, continued the push, and got out of Dodge.
As a regular commuter, I don't have to tell you how much of a bind I would have been in without my passport. These two gentlemen were competent, cool and professional. They also embodied the spirit of camarderie that I truly admire them for, and that I will strive to provide to any pilot that needs a ride home, and ends up in my jumpseat.
Thanks.
