I just wanted to relate a great experience I had jumpseating on Delta Airlines. I was traveling from LGA to ATL, and was thoroughly welcomed by everyone. I was processed with CASS and sat in the jumpseat of one of their 737-800s.

During push back from the gate, Ops called the tug operator and advised that
the jumpseater (me) had left his passport at the gate. I was actually mortified that I would cause any sort of delay or inconvenience. The Captain and First Officer were amused by this and told them to send it out. Within a minute (literally), a truck came rolling up and when the F/O opened his cockpit window, a black glove came sailing through the opening. Inside was my passport. We tossed out the glove, continued the push, and got out of Dodge.

As a regular commuter, I don't have to tell you how much of a bind I would have been in without my passport. These two gentlemen were competent, cool and professional. They also embodied the spirit of camarderie that I truly admire them for, and that I will strive to provide to any pilot that needs a ride home, and ends up in my jumpseat.

Thanks.

Good story indeed..glad to hear something positive this day and age. Hopefully karma will be in this flight crews favor when they need help someday..

Amen to that. It's tough enough in this industry, especially now. If we don't take care of each other, nobody will.

I just had an excellent experience with Mesaba airlines getting home to MSP. Considering all they are going through the courtesy and concern they showed in getting me up front was great!

There seems to be a lot of negative on this board, any chance of making a "Kudos" or "Thank you" forum?

It would be refreshing to have a forum devoted to good acts bestowed upon by our fellow airmen, and women.

cheers,

AA

I've had nothing but good luck hitching a ride with Delta. I and many of us at Airtran appreciate their help.

Maybe you you're on to something. There are certainly more good than bad jumpseat experiences out there.

Does anyone else have a good story about getting where they needed to go because of another airline's efforts?

How about a forum for all the times the gate agent has screwed you over?

I agree with you.
Last week I had a Delta captain go out of his way to help me with a CASS problem created by "operator error" from the gate agent. Thanks to him I got home that night. Both guys were truly class acts. Thanks.

Seriously, peeps in da house, if you be like nice and stuff to all da peeps, then most of da peeps will be nice too.

They should be like makin a rule like to be treatin dem others like you wants to be treated.. Maybe like them ALPA dudes can be like putti that stuff in da Jumseater code of like conduct, and stuff

Not to be a jerk but delta completely screwed me last week, The agent messed up and did not scan my passport for cass, and sent me up onto the flight deck. after i was all setled in she came up with the final paperwork and was like i screwed up you need to get off. and pulled me off the plane. The part that sucked was this was the 4th flight i got bumped off and she locked me in the jet brige for 20 mins also. then she bitched me out for not listing ahead of time, which i had. I would like to extend a big fu to that agent. The entire ATL adventure was a disaster, and as a former DAL (furlough) id like to say thank god i dont work for that train wreck anymore. And just for the record i was very calm and profesional and did not say one mean word to the crew or the agent, i figure the price of hitchhiking.

This doesn't make sense. You're sitting on the jumpseat, and she pulls you off with the final paperwork in hand.....because of her screwup.......and the Capt didn't say anything?? Sounds kinda fishy to me. I would have told the gate agent to go unscrew her paperwork most ricky tick, because we aren't leaving without you.

Thanks to DL and FL

As a B6 commuter from ATL, DL and FL have alway been excellent. Just this week a DL pilot gave up his reserved J/S and used his pass card so that I could get to work. Thanks all of the Crews who are truly professional and get me to a from work.

WAR EAGLE!!!

If she screwed up the CASS transaction with AIRINC, he wouldn't be authorized for cockpit access. If the back end was full - no go. They aren't going to delay the flight for ten minutes to re-do the CASS authorization. Thank you - come again.

Giving him crap about listing is is agent shorthand for 'how dare you embarass me'.

This is not a slam on Delta, I've had relatively decent treatment the few times I've jumped on them. Just trying to explain how this might have happened.

When unable to use CAL:

AA and SWA ALWAYS been great and very professional (in 10 years of commutting).

Thanks. US (LLC) has been fantastic for me in NY, too.

Besides my complaning before i must say that the LCC usualy have treated me the best as a jumpseater. I have used Jet Blue a bunch, always a good time. SWA is great and eaven Air tran has been good to me. In some cases these airlines have treated me better than paying passengers which is just nuts. (no pun intended)

NJCapt,

I beg to differ. At Delta, the Capt is the HMFIC, and his authority is absolute. If he tells the gate agent to get his/her buttocks up the jetway and submit it again, that's exactly what they will do. I have flown with many Capts at Delta that would do exactly that, and tell the agent we're not pushing and leaving a commuter behind because of an admin error. Just my dos centavos.

Dont you have to be a part of an airline crew to be accepted into CASS? Does being a flight instructor count? :D
