Increasing screening on young arab males who are NOT US CITIZENS is hardly a blow to civil rights. It is a necessary evil.
I am sorry that your idealism is the type that will cost lives. Sadly, most idealists create rules that OTHERS must suffer under, while they themselves are exempt.

Hey ATL2CDG, do you have some special protection from muslim terrorism?

Is your idealism going to protect you if you happen to be on the next targeted airliner, or will they kill you along with all the rest of the innocent passengers?
In some ways I admire your ideals, freedom and equal treatment for all humans regardless of national origin and citizenship is a noteworthy goal, but you seem to be ignoring reality. It doesn't matter why, but these people don't like us. They want to kill us.
I'm sure that you will try and show equivilency between our military actions and their civilian actions. All I can say is that we play be the rules. They do not. You might not like our presence in the middle east, and you may not like our support of Israel, but we do so in a legal civilized manner. Obviously, you don't like the fact that we attacked Iraq. But we did so with international law on our side. We go out of our way to wage war in such a way as to limit the bloodshed to uniformed military personel. Yes, civilians get hurt as a byproduct of war, but we have made an honest attempt to wage a war that minimizes civilian casualties. Quit blaming their problems on us. They've got so dang much liquid gold in their countries that they could rule the world if they weren't so flipping backward in their civilization. You know, liberals like you hate the men of this country who hold ideas similar to the radical muslims. The role of women is a good example.

Now back to the subject. Here's the facts, muslim terrorists perpatrated terror and murder against Americans. We know who the enemy is, why do we ignore the enemy? I'm quite sincere in my opening question, do you have special protection against their next murder? If not, I would think that you would want to stop the next attack just as much as I want to stop the next attack. Yet you continue to support ideas that give the terrorists a helping hand.
What's up with that?
BTW, I've come to realize that the terrorists are now attempting to utilize persons such as Tim McVeigh (the so called "lily whites" someone else mentioned), so I'm not as hot for profiling as I once was, but you've got to admit that having 16 individuals who fit the terrorist profile board one airliner should set warning bells aringing.
