TAM and Gol (Brazil)

Anyone here work for either of these companies and/or know anything about them in regards to pay and hiring times?

I don't work there but my friends said hiring has stopped at both GOL and TAM. After the downsizing of VARIG (purchased by GOL), a lots of their pilots are going to be placed on 737 fleet. As for TAM, no more hiring this year.
All Brazilian airlines will only hire those that have Brazilian citizenship. There are currently a bunch of guys on the street looking for jobs out there.
Sorry but no "caipirinhas and churrasco" anytime soon.

No problem.....I was too and the only reason I know this things is because I've been actively looking for stuff down there. Until May, if you had experience (Jet PIC and around 6,000 hrs) you could get a job at TAM as direct entry captain on A320 and make around R$11,000 a month. I don't know about GOL, but I believe you have to start as F/O. The schedule is very different down there, specialy domestic flying. A lot of trips are 6 days long with around 15hrs of flying and 8 to 10 days off a month. They don't care about productivity since you're paid in salary. The overtime is great (weekends, holidays, nights, etc).
Try to find out about AZUL (E190), they should start operating at end of year and will probably hire soon.

TAM is not hiring...I'm surprised when where moving the dreamliners the ramp out at Boeing Everett is full of new aircraft painted in the TAM livery.

Well AMT is kind of misinformed they don't pay salary in Brazil. It's like here you have a garanteed and a variable part the difference is garanteed it's always 54 hrs for all airlines thanks to a weak union. Also the 8 days off a month minimum it's the same for all since 1987. You don't choose your schedule they do. And yes some times you'll have 15hrs duty time but still max 8hrs of flight time a day or 6 landings for single crew. The deal there is there is not enough inspectors so flying above limit it's always happening.

Only citizens can fly there because of the constitution like in Europe only europeans citizens can fly there. That's how it should be here in USA too to avoid 9/11.

Not true - No European citizenship is required to fly in Europe.

Allowing only US citizens to fly in the US would not have prevented 9/11.

Bombinha, I'm a bit confused by what you've stated. First you said that AMT was misinformed and that they don't pay salary in Brasil. Then one thread later you state the above. Could you clarify which one it is?

And I was born there so the citizenship part really isn't a problem. Just trying to weigh the benefits of flying here in the US (at least with the current industry) versus flying in Brasil.

Sorry to rain on your parade dude, I am also married to a Brasilian and NO you cannot, it takes 15 years to acquire citizenship unless you are Portuguese, it takes one year, and this is all predicated upon living there the whole time, possibly just having residence there may work, if you have better info, like proving me wrong, pleeeaaze do, I am really curious.

You can pass into Brasil as offen as you like with no limits like the five year tourist visa.

Yes I would say so. Not too long ago people were getting hired with less than 500 hours. Once the hiring starts again you shouldn't have a problem provided all of the paper work is in order.

I thought you even explained this to me before, that we had to be Brasilian? is that true?

I think you would be able to but I'll check on that. We have a few Mercosul guys working for us and one of them I am sure is not a Brazilian citizen.
Alot of people have been asking me this question so I'll check the regs and I'll get back to you guys.

I checked with some people who seem to know the regs really good and they said you have to be a citizen, either born or naturalized, to be able to fly in Brazil.
Since this is Brazil, I guess if you know the right people, you could probably pay your way around the red tape but if you follow the law, then you need to be a citizen.
I hope this better answers everybodys questions.

Just got back From Recife visiting my wife (no visa yet). Always honored to fly on TAM. Haven't flown GOL. The crews of TAM have been outstanding to me. As for citizenship, this is what I found on wikipedia:

Naturalisation as a Brazilian citizen

Foreigners may apply for Brazilian citizenship if they meet the following criteria:
*permanent residence in Brazil
*four years continuous residence in Brazil (short trips may be permitted)
*ability to speak and write Portuguese
*sufficient personal or family resources to support themselves
The residence requirement may be reduced in certain circumstances:
only one year's residence is required for those who have a Brazilian spouse, parent or child
for nationals of Portuguese-speaking countries, one year's residence is required
those with "professional, scientific or artistic ability" may apply after two years
persons of higher net worth may apply for Brazilian citizenship after 3 years.
Foreigners who have resided continuously in Brazil for 15 years may apply for Brazilian citizenship on that basis alone.
