Absolutely NOTHING will ever happen like this in the US unless ALPA Nat'l and Individual MEC leaders are willing to stand up and LEAD and be willing to serve some jail time for contempt. Yes the NY transit folks did get nearly what they were asking for, but if memory serves me correct, their leaders also spent a few days in jail over it as well. Yes, I also believe both the companies and the gubmint would blink and we'd get what we want as well.....pay, benifit and retirement restoration BUT again, that will never happen as we have leadership that is testicularly challenged. Friggen alpa makes me sick when they tout the DAL/NWA, Alaska and HAL contracts as improvements and gains.....what fu$king kind of new math are they using to figure that? DAL took a 42% paycut and lost retirement, 4 years later we get a measily 17% back and they are freaking PROUD of that!!! Again, NOTHING will change until we ALL completely change our MEC's & Nat'l with folks who run on the slogan: I am willing to shut it down and go to Jail. Anything short of that is yet more mental masturbation. Rant & spelling errors...DONE.

Hi!

I don't get the pink shirts thing....what is that about?

Controllers vs. Pilots today:
I did NOT think about that. Reagan used Mil controllers to replace the civvy ones. If an airline(s) of pilots went on strike, you are correct, the company(ies) would not be able to replace them. I guess the biggest problem would be the gov't could jail the leaders of the strike, for promoting illegal activity.

I think that chaning the RLA is a more practical solution.

Yupe, that is part of the problem..
Nothing we have ever done in this country that achieved greatness or righted a wrong was done without leaders standing up and saying "ENOUGH".

If it means that Union leaders (ALPA National down to LEC officers) go to jail, so be it. It comes with the job.

And before some of you cry that I should put my foot where my mouth is.. I served as a LEC officer and believe in a strong Union. Problem today, in our Nation, is that alot of people want to be "leaders" but nobody wants to lead or be held accountable and responsible.
Sometimes tough calls need to be made.

Had ALPA National stood up, as a Union, and said-
USAir, you take away the pension of the USAir pilots, we shut down the system, THE WHOLE SYSTEM!
We wouldn't have the pension issues we have today in the industry.

Instead, USAir management got away with it and of course every other airline is going to try and do the same thing.

At some point, Fear (of getting arrested) can't stop you for doing what you know is right.

I would love for the rla to change but it won't (alpa has no want for that, let alone business and govt) so I guess its time for management want a bes to get out of alpa and get real leadership. Yes the transit guys did time 3 days but who cares they got what they wanted.

And shortly thereafter, the airlines would one by one file CH11 and tear up those contracts.

ALPA is the problem. The sooner we all realize that and get rid of em the better off we will all be. What we all need is a union that isn't concerned with just the amount of union dues they get but actually helping pilots.
